That space laser gun sounding effect on the main riff in piss crowns whenever he moves on the fret board is too cool

there are two types of people. those who listen to this album on headphones and think its a masterpiece; and those who listen to this album with iphone speakers and think its a let down. there are so many sonic intricacies in this album that you just cant appreciate it without having tjat detail coming through your audio source. there is so much going on especially in the two drones. but throughout the album there are so many quiet melodies playing off of each other in such beautiful and haunting ways, and theres just no way to get that impact without careful listening. ill probably only get a brilliant experience with this album once or twice because i rarely have to time to just sit there with headphones. all oher listening experiences ive had of this album have been drastically less enjoyable.

Agreed. Even the headphone difference is notable. my first listen was with earphone buds and the second was with proper headphones and the difference was apparent. The last track in particular is so dense that it definitely requires headphones

A friend of mine who is also on Sputnik went ahead and listened to this album as soon as I told him about the stream. He came back saying "it's not very good; it's just a bit boring and doesn't have those amazing moments; and I hate drone it's just boring and a waste of time" and I said "did you listen on headphones?" and he said " no just played it through my ipad near my ear, but you can still usually get an idea if somethings good". I couldn't decide whether to laugh or flip my shit. More often than not when people say "you gotta listen in headphones to really appreciate it", I scoff a little bit and think "yeah you can say that for anything", and usually people who are saying it are doing so because they are apologists for the band and are making excuses for why the album actually kind of sucks. But I'm adament that that isn't the case here. This album truly does rely on its sonic intricacies and that should be embraced. First track aside (as it's a little more straight-forward than the others IMO), this album places almost its entire focus on little details that work together to form an atmosphere, rather than hitting you with obvious, uplifting riffs. This is their real masterpiece in my view.

Oh and those drones man, especially the first one. I find it hard to justify calling them "drones" because there is SO much going on in them, like they're much more layered, densely and meticulously crafted, atmospheric and progressive than most songs I've heard.
