Shara Worden is amazing on the live clips I have seen. It helps that The Queen's Rebuke is such a great song.

I would love to see Hazards the whole way through live. When I saw them, they played up to the Rake's Song and then Hazards of Love 4, which was still cool, but felt a little incomplete (because it was).

Saw these guys live last year when they were touring for this album and they were one of the best live bands I have seen.

@Sowing The Wanting Comes In Waves was my favorite part of their performance, it was amazing live

If rated on basis of each single song this is maybe a 3 to 3.5, but as a whole it somehow feels different. What a record. 4.5

If you love this that much then check out The King is Dead asap if you haven't. And their other albums too, while you're at it.

Will do after I caught up on everything from 2015 I still have on my list. If it sounds like this it might happen that I rate the other albums lower, just as I could've rated this one lower if I had listened to the others first.

The King is Dead is their only album that really sounds like this. All their albums have a strong indie folk element but this and KiD filter that folk influence through a country/Americana style while their older albums are largely story based and have a stronger theatrical chamber pop/indie pop influence with some prog thrown in on a couple albums.

I see you have The King is Dead at a 5. Probably will be the other way around for me just because of what I heard first.

That's fair, I'd probably feel that way if I came to them in reverse order.

Lake Song never fails to make me feel like laying on a hammock and watching the sunset while sipping tequila

Sipping tears of melancholy, you mean. Doesn't it tug at your heartstrings a little?

And the bright light

It's all around me

A goosebump moment for sure. I do wish they had gone all in on the climax of that song.

Yeah, Beginning Song is some powerful stuff.

Might have to bump this back to a 4, I probably have a more complicated relationship with this than any other Decemberists album.

Hey, that average has recovered slightly. Good. Deserves it :]
Haven't heard this in ages before today, such a beautiful little album. I also may have a serious man crush on Colin Meloy.
