Examples? My point is that music doesn't have to be groundbreaking for it to work well. But as you said, maybe that's just me too.

I definitely agree, music doesn't necessarily have to break new grounds to be enjoyable, but it definitely
counts as a factor of my overall appreciation. It only gets a major flaw when a band is following a definite
formula to the letter, which is not the case here.

Anyways, as a significant example of innovative modern prog, I'd cite Gazpacho, North Atlantic Oscillation,
Se Delan, Messenger and iamthemorning. All those bands, while not recreating the genre - as that's hardly
possible at this point - definitely avoid the obvious prog clichés and bring new ideas to the table that
help keeping things fresh. I know the golden age of prog is long gone, but I think the genre still has
things to offer.

I don't see prog clichès here, to be fair. They abuse of emotional crescendos which are typical of some other genres though. It's pretty "original" as 2015 prog can be to be fair.

So, because someone asked this on the reddit ama and Rishloo wouldn't give a straight answer for it (and why should they), what do you guys think a dead rope machine is?

Mmh.. I'm gonna give mine. Can the song be about suicide? Dead rope machine may be a broken noose. "I'll make you one out of gold" - golden 'nooses' were used in the past (see 'Geordie' a brit ballad -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geordie_%28ballad%29 "Ah my Geordie will be hanged in a golden chain, This is not the chain of many".

The stranger at the door cutting the 'rope' may be death (it's not the time yet of the person?), hence the broken rope of the beginning. He rejects paradise because he knows he's not going there (the 'halo').. I mean there's a lot of death/salvation related images in the song.

May also be a nifty reference to GoT, that "out of gold" (Jaime's golden hand, lolz).

I also think that salutations is pretty straight forward lyrically but still brilliant.

In my humble opinion, top 5 Rishloo moments are (first album is not icluded as I really don't care about it):

1.II HAAAD ENOUGHH OF IDDLEEE REVERIE....PLAAAASTICC WAATEEEER - the whole verse, I always adore screaming those lyrics in the end of the song.

2.FUCK YOU YOU FOOL...BEEEEEEEG BEGGAR - no words needed here

3.BLEEEDING/ALWAYS BLEEDING/EVER BLEEDING - just breathtaking

4.Downhill's solo - best instrumental moment for me

5.AND YOU DAANCE YOUR FRANTIC DAAANCEE.... I DON'T THINK I'LL NEED THAT - this moment. this fucking moment right there!

Most probably I'm forgetting some parts, I think I didn't honor Feathergun enough, I know, but there are simply so many good momens. Also, anybody thinking Just A Ride is talking about the band's story?

Think of it. The second verse could talk about the cost of being in a band, ''errupting on stages'' and what it is, and how it actually is being a musician. For no good reason Andrew would deceive us all just to get the point across. His cryptic lyrics are intentinall but somehow we always get the point.

And then he left the band and went ''to nothingness and barely bothered to survive'', meaning he didn't want to do something with music again, maybe. And with all the fuss that went around and all the fans that cried he returned, he was confused because he thought all his career was ''just a ride'' and his fans couldn't understand the simplicity of it all. Then the last verse is the band expressing their thoughts. They are brave, with free minds and an excellent vocalist (a voice that cries for life)and they just want the fan's love. In the end, though, it's just a ride.

Sorry for the long post. Bye! Good night!

Yea alchemy Alice is something else. If you don't think that his performance in that song is a whole other level of awesome...than I just don't know what is.

I know you're not forgetting that moment in disco biscuit where drew basically just chants random syllables in an increasingly disturbed fashion as the guitar part intensifies behind him. It's like he's possessed and speaking tongues. I fucking love it.

What about Pandora's "And set freeeeee this I swear, it's not enough for me to die alone, uproot these veins that fail to bleed..."?

That's a top 5 moment right there...

Indeed, Disco Biscuit is phenomenal. But I wouldn't put it in my top 5. Also, Diamond Eyes and Feathergun, as well as Keyhole in the Sky, all should be in top 5.

This record speaks to the failure Ayn Rand, "The Fountainhead", Art-Deco immortality dreamed of by so many atheist utopians. Good stuff.
