I think he's saying it's really melodramatic and theatrical in a blunt way, to a fault, with contrived songwriting and parts that say "OH THIS IS WHERE IT'S SUPPOSED TO PEAK AND SOUND REALLY DRAMATIC OKAY," like somebody was covering an Etta James song really poorly, or singing the National Anthem very badly and waiting for applause as they attempt to beeeeeeeeltttttttttt ouuuuuttttt notes that they can't hit.

and not that crescendos are inherently bad by any means; but the amount of people that hear them [in every song] along with the loud-soft-loud formula and go "OH THIS IS WHAT GOOD SONGWRITING IS" is way too high tbh
