The title track is amazing guys
Overall this album really is a jam. Besides the not
that optimal production and the sometimes annoying
vocals, it's all mdm greatness.
I think u all had to high expectations, as one can
see when it is compared to surgical steel, which is a
supreme record

I'm really into this but I'm also on a metal kick right now so who knows who long that'll last. The Head of the Hydra jams and the track right before it both rule. Wish I could catch this ATG/Converge/Pallbearer madness tour that's happening in the spring.

The patch that comes with the digipac edition of this is probably better than the actual record, but this still has some nice jams.

I like this. Nothing too special, but just some good tunes

Bad review.
Summary is even worse.

I didn't hate this album but I also was hoping for much better. There are a few good songs, some songs that are just alright and also some very boring songs.

Adam Thomas -- thanks for your post.
Though I haven't given this album a complete listen, this review seems to be lacking any legitimate reasoning behind its criticism. Saying that the first track is a "not nearly as interesting, narrated introduction" doesn't really give any information as to why. While you mention that there are "lagging tempos," this again doesn't provide the reader with any sort of notion of what this means: are the songs too slow? If they are slow, is there a reason why the pace is inadequate? Unfortunately, adjectives like "lackluster" don't help me understand why this album was disappointing. I would like to see more concrete reasoning. It seems like the review fails to look at the album on its own -- every statement is comparison to what the author sees as superior music; true, not every album will be Slaughter of the Soul, but perhaps At War with Reality has positives that could be more easily seen if the first half of the review concludes with praise for Carcass's Surgical Steel. Just some feedback ![](smile.gif)

I saw ATG on the Slaughter tour in a bar with maybe 100 people.
I saw them on the tour before that in a bar with maybe 50. Ive chilled with them twice a few hours before and after the shows they are the nicest dudes and I loved everything up to Slaughter but this album sucks real hard. I didnt expect anything less. I also thought Surgical steel was overrated too. Maybe im just content with those 90s days.

Some very good tracks on this album. May not be the quality of slaughter but still great. The only thing that puts me off sometimes are the vocals. They are just a tad to brutal and highpitched for the music sometimes. Just my feeelz

I totally agree with you on the vocals. I think the music that paired best with Thomas Lindberg's vocals was on Crowned in Terror.
I've been jamming Cermonial Oath's Carpet a lot lately, his vocals on the tracks he's featured on are so jarring.
I think there's a strong dividing line between people who like his performance on The Red in the Sky is Ours and Slaughter of the Soul. I prefer the later personally.
