Her new one was a bit of a disappointment for me on first listen

People are calling it a return to form after joyride but I much prefer that. Hopefully it grows, but i think she’s most suited to darker and sensual beats (aka most of nightride) not upbeat poppy hip hop shit (aka the new one)

“Tinashe’s ‘Songs for You’ Is the Artist’s True Debut Album”

"The artist’s previous albums, the minimalist “Aquarius,” the dark-tinged “Nightride” and the smooth “Joyride,” sound like they were recorded by three completely different artists. “Songs for You” ties these three personas together beautifully into an effortlessly moody style."

lol yeah this makes absolutely no sense

album still bangs though

I can see it. Aquarius amd Joyride sound like the same artist but Nightride sounds completely different

She maintains some signature style in most tracks on all her stuff including her mixtapes... nightride is probably the most experimental..but I always thought that was a fairly deliberate move because she wanted to try different styles. If anything I’d say the hip hop bad bitch style on her new one sounds the most contrived - her ethereal stuff sounds more natural

Although she was uncredited in the poorly received Masked and Anonymous, Roger Ebert observed at the film's 2003 Sundance Film Festival premiere "the one performer in the movie whose performance actually was applauded; that was a young black girl named Tinashe Kachingwe, who sings 'The Times They Are A-Changin'' with such sweetness and conviction that she is like a master class." He concluded his review of the movie: "If I had been asked to serve as consultant on this picture, my advice would have amounted to three words: more Tinashe Kachingwe."[22]
