according to their facebook this isnt a new song, but rather them uploading old unreleased material to keep fans from getting bored during the pandemic/social isolation etc

Gotcha Park - thanks for clearing that up. At least they are active. So maybe new material in the future.

Wow. Just stumbled upon Jakob. I’m quite picky when it comes to post rock, where I am easily bored and restless with many of the popular reference points and forefathers of the genre - but Jakob - there’s just this indescribable emotional response. Headphones on and it really is straight to the heart with these guys.

I don’t get any sense that this album is off balance though. If feels decidedly connected and while I listen to it I often find myself thinking this is their best yet. Although when I then put on Solace I come to the same conclusion. And in the cold light of day, I’d have to give the edge to Solace, just.

Sines has this wonderful pervasive feeling that underlies all of the songs, a rich and deep ambience/texture that might just be in the mixing/production but it certainly imbues the album with a consistent ‘feeling’ regardless of what the music is doing at any particular moment. In contrast, Solace feels more alive and edgy. And just as Solace has Saint for its dying embers, Sines has its t/t for similar effect.

Both are perfect though, and represent some of the most immersive post rock I’ve heard.

jakob fans should check out astralia - solstice, super good

also this album has aged *really* well. i originally found it to be a huge letdown but it's really worked its way into their discography nicely. i think it sits next to their other albums really well now, it's not quite as good as solace for me but it's definitely cale:drew quality.

Checking out your dig now, this is right up my alley. Nice find.

Speaking of New Zealand post/prog stuff, have you heard of hiboux?
