Didn't they release about 2/3s of these songs as singles? I remember it being some ludicrous amount, the label milked it for every penny.

Four songs were singles (each song in the stretch from "In My Place" through "Clocks") and I personally don't think that's unreasonable for an 11-track album, but YMMV.
X&Y is the one that got milked, 6 out of 13 tracks... lol

I've heard clocks waaay too many times on the radio [2]
since I was like 9 haha. Good song tho
No album should have more than 4 singles. 2-3 is ideal.

I think more than 4 can be excused if an album has an unusually high amount of tracks (such as how Mellon Collie had 5 or 6 singles, depending on whether or not you count "Muzzle"), but otherwise yeah agreed.

I must be thinking of X&Y then. Muse's Absolution has 6 singles as well, too many.
|

Yeah Absolution had way too many. Also American Idiot by Green Day has a lot I think

Imagine not liking Coldplay

Never understood the hate Coldplay get. Yes they are inoffensive and unabashedly mainstream, but their good stuff is very good, like most of this album.

I appreciate that all their albums sound different, not many other mainstream rock acts do that and really keep their sound fresh. I'd say Arctic Monkeys and QofSA do too.
I was happy to find an instrumental version of Ghost Stories, really nice downtempo ambient electronic without those lyrics haha.

It’s a damn shame that Coldplay have gotten so bad because this really such a great album. Viva as well. Hell I even like X & Y (not as good though). The last Coldplay album I bought was Mylo Xyloto. It had some good songs but not enough to compel me to buy their next. And every new single they’ve released since has been awful.
At this point I don’t even want to listen to their older great albums because they’re so tarnished to me now.

Agreed. New ones suck, old ones are very nice.

Yeah I feel like I should check out Ghost Stories though, at least once. Was glancing at the thread on that and people were generally saying it was their sole good “newer” album. I hated that song Magic though so I just figured it would be more of the same.

It was alright I guess. Not to big of a fan of it. Actually really got a soft spot for X&Y though. Think it gets a little too much hate.

Some people liked Ghost Stories, probably because it was mostly all cloaked under a pleasant faux-ambient pop sheen, but at the core the songwriting was as banal as on Mylo and Dreams Full of Head.

Yeah I like X & Y as well. Fix You, Swallowed by the Sea, What If, The Hardest Part. Lots of good songs. I’m not sure why it gets so much hate either because really, it’s not THAT inferior to Rush and Viva. A little inconsistent though. And I HATE Speed of Sound lol.

Nice to see it get some love. Don't you like Viva, Source? I personally don't really like it but it's generally considered to be one of their better ones.
