WME-repped Edwards is attached to direct Godzilla 2 and 3, but while story ideas exist, the Godzilla 2 project is still in early development and does not even have a script.

Yeah, that's the journalist writing that. The only mention from the head of Legendary Pictures is:
"The plan has always been for Gareth to direct a different film before we started on another Godzilla,

Not trying to burst any bubbles here though! A trilogy would be cool, but until someone higher up the food chain confirms it I'm calling fiction.
I love how he's going to direct another movie (a non-monster movie to boot) before returning to Godzilla. Smart move

It seemed a bit early for the studio to announce a third entry already.
Atleast we can be the sequel is 100% confirmed.
That's a good idea, I wonder what it'll be?
I still have to see Monsters, you saw it right? How is it?

I'm not surprised in the least.

I personally love Monsters, but it's even more of a slow burn that Godzilla. It's basically about two
people who travel through an "infected zone" (a quarantine area where monsters roam). The story is
more about the developing connection between the two, and deals with themes of alienation on your own
planet more than anything, a stranger in your own land etc. The monsters, and the area, are treated as
a backdrop, and there is no major reveal to be had. Though, there is a great scene near the end where
two giant monsters almost dance/commune with each other. Lots of cool cinematography, with some
improvised dialogue and admittedly, slightly dull acting

Jon Hopkins did the soundtrack as well, so there's an added bonus.
They just announced a sequel, though Edwards is only producing it:

I think I'll go watch Monsters this weekend. I hate movies that put monsters on the first place and characters on the last (like Cloverfield), so this should be good.

That's what I've heard. J.J. Abram apparently had something to do with it as well I hear.

This was fucking crazy! Even though the human story for the most part sucked. But it was Godzilla, I didn't go watch this for logic and smart human characters :D

I'll admit I liked some of the human elements to it. Granted it really should've been downplayed. But let's face it, the last 20 minutes were totally worth it in the end. The audience applauded at the end, which is something I haven't heard anyone do in a movie theater in a long time.
