'This > FWN'

i disagree vehemently, this is nowhere near as varied, much more derivative and the lyrics are weaker

This is less varied yeah but its also more consistent considering most of the second half of FWN is shite

None of their albums are particularly original so I wouldn't say derivative applies only to this

But lyrics are weaker yes

second half of FWN has the two best songs on the album ie. do me a favour and 505, which is probably my favourite monkeys tune. If you were there and circus are pretty weak but old yellow bricks is a fucking jam and the bad thing is catchy as hell.

And perhaps less derivative is the wrong word, FWN just has more of a signature/unique sound IMO, i feel pretty much any band could've made this, albeit not as well

Do Me a Favour and 505 are fantastic yeah but the rest are ugh. I cannot fucking stand the Bad Thing, worst Monkeys song

I think any band could've made this but any band could've made FNM too. Maybe not as well, as you said, but they're still hardly original albums

i get what you're saying, fwn is no more original than this, but i think it's much better than disguising its influences, unlike the obvious rip-offs on here like arabella.

also i want it all has to be the worst monkeys song by a country mile, shit lyrics, no melody and sounds like it was written in half an hour by a 5-year old

FWN still remains to be my favorite. I'm grateful this band didn't write Whatever People Say 3 more times.

Nahh I love that song. Even the songs I didn't like that much I love now like Riot Van and A Certain Romance which is my fave AM song. Whatever is definitely the most consistent AM album.
