I need to re-listen to this. On first listen I did adore it though. The length makes it hard to revisit when I don't know if I have that much time for a full listen.

I gave Deafheaven a 5 and it's probably my aoty but I can't classify them under just black-metal like I can Gris.

sunbather is like a 4 prob

this is way more interesting imo, but dfhvn bring the post-rock feels and are local for me so i'll always love em for what they are.

To each his own, I just was floored by Sunbather immediately. This is also fantastic stuff and will need a few more listens.

i was floored by sunbather too at first (reviewed it at a 4.5) but i keep thinking they're capable of better. their live sets are always way better than their records. i think a slightly rougher sound would do their recordings more favors than the shimmer they go for now.

this record is much more absorbing for me.
