I just heard this for the third time, and I have to say, it's pretty decent. I'll admit I didn't expect this to be much, but I was surprised at how great it turned out. The doom sound that reappears in a few tracks is some of the best stuff Sabbath has pumped since the 80s.

have to give Wilk credit for fitting right in, then again, he does have good groove on the kit that somewhat matches or compliments Ward's style, i'm guessing Ward is one of his influences

Hey Tommy. Can't complain, and you? How have you been?
And yeah. I'm listening to it again now to jot down some ideas to review tomorrow morning. This my first review in weeks where I'll actually have free time to work on it, instead of rushing ideas. How are you liking it, man?
Right now I'd say my top tracks are "End Of The Beginning", "Zeitgeist", and "Damaged Soul"

@Shadow
Yeah, Brad did a great job. It's a shame we didn't get a "real" Sabbath reunion, but he did fit in just fine in the end.

@ sarge - doing alright matey just usual stuff uni/work/jammin etc
i haven't actually heard this yet cos i'm waiting for a legit flac rip and/or the physical release in australia... they played god is dead? when i saw em a few weeks ago and it fit right in with the 70s stuff (albeit a tad overlong) so i have high hopes... iommi is a riff machine!
looking forward to your review mate, idk if i've commented on much of your stuff lately but i read them all religiously... you've got into a real nice groove perfectly balancing your 'flowery' (in a good way) tendencies with a more concise style... it's a pleasure to read
especially that deerhunter review!

Good to hear you're well. And thank you, that's very kind of you to say. Time hasn't been on my side lately, so I've rarely had the time to give my writing the attention I'd like, but no one seems to be complaining (thank god). I'm glad to hear you're liking them. I appreciate that. I'm still trying to find a good style, balancing out the things like you said- we'll see how that goes.
And yeah, it's a good album. Definitely holds some of their longest stuff. And I think that's where the album's flaws lie. The riffs are great, and Ozzy's voice is as good as can be, but I dont know, most songs drag longer than they should and lack the 'magick' of the 70s to really be able to keep the listener intrigued throughout their entirety. Still a pretty entertaining album though.
...Also, you saw them live? Damn. that' so cool. I've never seen Sabbath with the Ozzy.

idk why people say the songs are too long, seems just about right for me
|

yeah it was a great show, tony and geezer are still right at the top of their game, ozzy was very entertaining and actually sang pretty well, and the drummer was tight, i think his name's tommy clufetos or something, he's no bill ward but he really did a great job
and the setlist was very heavy on the first six albums, just jam after jam after jam
will get my hands on this record asap!

I'm still not very happy Ward isn't on this, but I can't say I'm unhappy Wilks is on it. He does a damn fine job on this.
I'm gonna listen to this more, but I might just 4.5 it.

"The quiet verses and loud doom metal choruses certainly remind one of the iconic 70s tune, but the faster section that begins in the middle is done just a wee bit better than the speedier section in "Black Sabbath."
hell no, self titled song is one of their top 5 songs ever
