If you notice, Climactic agreed with what I said and continued to add his own examples so you're agreeing with both of us.

I don't see at all how I'm agreeing with you. If I was, why did you even attack me in the first place?

Climactic was going off from what I saying so I have no idea how you only favor his words over mine.

The quote I pulled was explaining how this album is not the same as the utter shit that is Brokencyde and Emmure. Climatic related Rings of Saturn to TesseracT by concluding that although he doesn't like both bands, there are aspects of their sound that prevent them from being as bad as Brokencyde. Those bands are why 1-1.5/5 exist. Not this.

At least, that's what I got from it. Maybe he can clarify, but I doubt he wants to get tangled up in this.

honestly i was kinda half agreeing with both of you

fear was saying that technical ability has nothing to do with how good an album is, which i agree with

non applicable was saying that technical ability prevents a band from being in the area of super low ratings (1-1.5), which is not INHERENTLY true, but for me it usually works out that way.

i can appreciate an album more if the members have talent, even if i don't particularly enjoy the music they make. rings of saturn may write shit songs, but their ridiculous instrumentals at least make them slightly entertaining. i can't put unlistenable shit like brokencyde, BOTDF, etc in the same category as ROS or brain drill because i can appreciate technical ability, even if it's pulled off in a ridiculous manner. maybe it's the musician in me, idk.

for the record, this is nowhere near any of the bands i mentioned. it's miles ahead of RoS and BD, i just find it hard to sit through because a lot of it sounds boring and repetitive. i even like the sound they're going for, but as an album it's just not enough to hold it's own weight.

hope i cleared things up.

I actually didn't say that, but I could see how people thought I did. Specifically, I used the word "Talent", which somehow got misconstrued into technical ability. I was speaking more generally about talent(song writing, ability, passion, ect).

I totally see how someone could dislike this. "Boring and Repetitive" are legitimate criticisms.

My point still stands however. Although music is extremely subjective, there is always a degree of objectivity to it. Altered State is not as bad as a Brokencyde release. When something is rated a 1.5/5, you're inherently saying it's that bad.

I think even if your not whiling to admit it Fear, there is some truth to that. The fact that you've had nothing but negative things to say about this album yet reflect a reasonable score, is proof enough for me.

Anyways, thanks climatic. This is going nowhere, so I'm just going to stop.

Well, I don't want to continue arguing anyway Applicable. I understand why you like this album. I can see why others like it too. It's not for me though nor others. Also to your question Climactic, regardless if it was to me or not, I much prefer One over this. I actually am quite a fan of One.

I can see where you're getting this statement from considering this is how I use to look at it. However, I now rate it on accordance to the ratings by if this is poor album by the band without comparing it to others. If I basically followed that thinking still, I'd never be able to give 1 or 1.5's to any bands other than Brokencyde and such.

By a fair margin. As preposterous as this may sound to you, I will surely have this 5 at some point. There is something about their sound that I crave.

I don't even care that there is barely stylistic variation. I just want to hear that same style over and over.

That's fair. I guess it depends on how you interpret the scale. Each of the site's rating descriptions(1 - Awful, 3 - Good, ect), are much different than what I associate with the scores.

Personally I don't use what's provided because I feel the distinction between "Superb, Great, and Excellent" are arbitrary. I use those words interchangeably to describe quality albums. It seems silly to me to assign hierarchy to synonyms.

The vocals are mixed really badly. They seem really recessed but the rest of the instrumentation doesn't have enough power in the mix to justify it.

This started of a 4 for me. not sure what happened?

I don't think he's a terrible vocalist, but I feel they should have someone that's a bit more aggressive.
I mean, Spencer Sotelo has a boy band voice but at least he screams as well.

I think it might have something to with my hearing if the production is actually great. I've been having some problems recently so i think I'll get it checked out...

Oh, I hope not! Production is very subjective just like music. Maybe the mixing just don't jibe with

you. It'd be better than hearing damage =)

I'd have to listen to this again to judge the mixing. I recall the mixing on One was pretty mediocre. It sounded spongy and
weak.
