just one thing i like slipknot and i like the new album( better than iowa not as good as slipknot) but how can you say corey taylor has the best voice in metal listen to mudvayne( dig, cradle, world so cold) and tell me you still think corey has the best voice
| | | One of the better voices? Maybe, but not the best, or even one of the best...
However, Chad Gray isn't the paragon of metal singing either...

Going off topic. Why does everyone go off topic
| | | It's a thread about Slipknot, and they're talking about the merits/lack thereof of Corey Taylor's voice. Where exactly did it go off topic?
| | | As far as nu-metal vocals go, Chino Moreno owns all. Especially Corey Taylor. Sorry.
| | | Corey Taylor isn't anywhere near my favorite vocalist, but Chino Moreno's voice grates on me quite a bit. Nothing I have heard by the Deftones (which isn't much I'll admit) has struck me as good in the vocal department.
| | | Listen to "Digital Bath" as soon as possible then.
| | | for some reason i really like the song Duality
| | |
Chino is good on "Digital Bath" and numerous songs on the albums, but he is absolutely horrid live (most notably, Summer Sanitarium 2003. It would be one thing if I was on the leg of the tour, but I was at the first show on July 4th, and he sounded horrible). On the albums, though, he is okay.
To the JoZ: I like your review... well done!
Well, around that period, Chino was going through his throat problems. I believe they cancelled a few shows.
But now he's back and better than ever.

Don't be an idiot.
And if you read my review, I sing their praises alot more than he did.

I don't agree with you there mate. this album was amazing when i first got it. yeh, there are 1 or 2 crap songs, but overall this album was not a letdown. it was totally difrerent to the other two albums slipknot have done, but i'm still trying to decide which is their best; VOL 3 or their self titled album. their new album is really well produced, but their fisrt album was so experimental, which made their music unique and amazing. iowa was just a loud blur of noise to me, so this albym totally blew me away. full on harcore slipknot isn't their best sound; experimental music is defiently the best.
| | | iai beat me to it but seriously folks ppl would kno what youre talkin about your in a review thread so you dont have to quote to reply. ****. i really like the acoustic songs and vermillion 1 and opium, blister, and duality are awesomw songs. i say :D :D :D :D :upset: 4 smileys
| | | Chad Gray is no MJK but he's a good vocalist and a marvellous lyricist at times.
Subliminal Verses is a marvellous album IMO. Its how all albums should be made, it has so much variety its untrue. If only all Bands went for such variety when recording rather than keeping themselves in a niche box.
Reading all these reviews has put me in a reviewing mood
I might do the new Haunted album.
| | | This album is definately good enough to buy. Those of you who say slipknot "just sounds like noise", thats because your not listening to it enough. I've had this album for 5 months, listening to it probly 1000 times over and i still find new guitar lines, vocal changes in pitch, drum lines. Great album.
| | | Good review and a good album :D My favorite song on it is Vermillion Pt.2
| | | i personally liked all three slipknot albums the self titled was the best it was heavy in your face and ****in angry and i liked that the second one was a big change it was less angry and alot less in your face diaster piece and left behind were the only real good ones and people= **** but subliminal versus was good to it was sung well and had the same feel but differnt style and it grew less in your face and a little less angry vermillion part 2 is angry and pissed off and painful but yet its soothing to in some bizare way..

Track by Track Review:
Prelude 3.0 – Interesting sounds during the very beginning, followed by Corey speaking very slowly. Rather boring, and not enough to keep me interested to hear the rest of the song several times through. 2/5
The Blister Exists – One of the highlights of the album, actually. Just like in past Slipknot albums, the first heavy song starts off with a bang, grabbing you by the throat and refusing to let go. A rather long interlude with the snare drums, which tends to bore most other listeners. Other than that, the song is pretty much flawless. 4/5
Three Nil – Great intro, nice and heavy. The verse is also pretty decent, and a great song to bang your head to. However, once you reach the chorus, and Corey starts his rather annoying whiny sing-songy voice, it makes me want to gag. That one chorus made the song quite irritating. Cool outro with the drums though. 3/5
Duality – The single of the album. Now that Slipknot has officially sold out, this song shows that. Once again the whine comes into the song during the intro and chorus, while the samples and guitars are doing their little thing in the background. The second part of the intro is quite cool, but a little simplistic for metal heads who are always craving more. Overall, 3/5
Opium of the People – This song seems like a space filler in the album, with all of typical elements of the past songs you have heard in this album. The high pitched guitars kick off the song, followed by some quick power chords in the verse. The whine comes back in full force during the chorus, followed by a simple interlude, then outro. 2/5
Circle – Wow, acoustic Slipknot. Lets see how it works. Well so far, the guitarists are just playing the same chord over and over, with Paul doing his little walking bass line in the back. Corey jumps in with some vocals now that fit the song well, and don’t bug me any more. Cool outro with the drums, though it seems it came out of nowhere, and the song ends very abruptly. 3.5/5
Welcome – In my opinion, this is the best song on the album. Great intro on the drums by Joey, and then a decent verse by everyone in the band. The vocals are never whiny, which is what makes this song the highlight. The solo by James is quite nice, and finally shows the real talent of the Slipknot guitarists. 5/5
Vermilion – The second single of the album, and quite a unique song at that. This once again a new sound to the band, and they actually do it justice. The lyrics are interesting, and keep me entranced to listen to the song a bunch of times. Another guitar solo that keeps the song flowing. Overall a pretty decent job by the boys in masks. 4/5
Pulse of the Maggots – Just like Opium of the People, a space filler. This song is dedicated to the fans, but doesn’t impress. Average everything from pretty much everyone in the band. Nothing incredibly special happens in the whole song. After hearing the solos in Welcome and Vermilion, this one just doesn’t amount. 2.5/5
Before I Forget – SPACE FILLER. This song is just plain lame. They could have at least thrown in a decent solo from Joey to keep me interested. This song just cant impress anyone except an ignornant little ten year old who hasn’t heard heavy music before. 1/5
Vermilion Pt. 2 – Here’s the concept. Lets take the same song we made earlier, except make it acoustic, and not as good! Lets see how that does! Well, this is how it did. Bad.
Survey says, 2/5
The Nameless – Technical intro with the drums, turntables and guitars that is one of the coolest things I have heard on the album thus far. Most of the song completely rocks, but the chorus part that sounds like a boy band in the back just pisses pretty much everyone off. Just because you cant do that, doesn’t mean you should. 4/5
The Virus of Life: 1/5
Danger – Keep Away – 1/5 All I can say is that both of these songs are just plain awful. If you don’t believe me, just listen yourselves.
Overall - 2.75/5
This album just didn't amount to the last two. They tried too many things too quickly, and lost too many fans, including me a little.
