I've always loved this album. Metallica really struck gold with the southern rock and blues influences. It's just a damn shame it was so underappreciated due to people expecting The Black Album 2.

I don't know if it was so much people's expectations for a Black Album 2.0 or the fact that most of us (including myself) were disappointed by the band's change of image and the short hair. As a result, most guys had formed an opinion without even having heard the album. Personally, I'm not a big fan of this one and I very rarely return to it even though it's not a bad album by any means.

Fair enough. I certainly can understand why folks disliked their change in style and image. I just wish it was judged more fairly by the fanbase in general - as you said, many people took one look at the short haircuts and sunglasses and wrote it off as crap.

It'd be like a 3.5 or a 4 if it didn't have a serious length problem. The House Jack Built, Cure, Mama Said, and The Thorn Within shouldn't have been on here. At all. They are a waste of time and space.
