Since that is my favorite, I shall give you the benefit of the doubt.

This one, you really gotta immerse yourself in the atmosphere, it's like a classic spiritual jazz record on side one; though it goes somewhere else with Ladies of the Road's raunchy ironic take on groupie sex, the delicate Song of the Gulls and the ornate Islands. A very Jekyll and Hyde-type of record.

a LepreCon sighting

@Scoob that makes sense; try Earthbound. These guys could tear it up live, which this doesn't really indicate.

“though it goes somewhere else with Ladies of the Road's raunchy ironic take on groupie sex”

Ladies of the Road freaking rules. Second best track on here behind the gorgeous Islands. Feeling this album so much right now. I bought their whole discog about a year or so ago. To me, this rivals Red and the debut.

these guys found it fucking hilarious when playing it, the exchange between Boz and Ian during the chorus was one made difficult because the lyrics are a bit ridiculous like "Stone-headed Frisco spacer" ?? A bit stupid on Sinfield's part, although it's a fun song

although it doesn't stand up to something like Formentera Lady. Blows my mind that they actually did something like that.

Formentera Lady and Islands are stunning, two of their best songs.

The t/t rules, but most of this seems like polished outtakes

Weak 3.5/5 on first listen (so like a 3.3)

Idk Fripp+co. took some songs they didn't think were good enough for their previous 3 albums, re-recorded them and threw them on here?

I'm not saying that's what happened, I'm just saying that's what they sound like

I guess i could see the reasoning behind that, but something like Islands or Forementera Lady sound nothing like anything they did before.

If Lizard was rooted in free jazz, Islands was based on Impulse!-related jazz artists, there's any decent comparison to make.

A record that people are coming around to at last, more than anything.
