He's made MUCH worse. This isn't all that bad, still pretty lame tho. He could have amp'd up the sonwriting just a tad.
I know Burzum has always had plodding meanderments conceptually akin to hopelessness, but at least it used to
have purpose and some degree of enjoyability. This album creates misery and suffering but in the sense that you just
want the music to end. Umskiptar symbolizes Varg's idea well running dry.

3.5 -not bad at all, really not the travesty this review claims it is. It isn't a joke, nor is it embarrassing; it's weird. It has repetition, slow passages, simplicity, a variety of vocal technique and some loooong tunes, but none of it is 'bad', perhaps a little odd as much of it plays like accompaniment to the poetic reading (albeit a heavily distorted one), rather than the lyrics being accompaniment to the music.
I find much that is memorable here, particular motifs and some of the bass melodies in particular. It may have benefited from some better production/arrangement (some of the fade outs/track endings are a bit pointless), but otherwise is a pretty decent Nordic Metal album.
