This is my first comment ever omg. I've been coming to this forum for about a month now, I decided it was time to finally create an account.
I think this is a pretty amazing album, it's taken me a while (2 days) to really get into, but goddamn does it grow on you.
I tried as hard as I could for all of about 10 minutes to hate these guys, trying to justify reasons like "they're too scene," "the vocalist is too whiny sounding," "they're not metal enough," blah blah blah, but I fell in love pretty fast.
I actually really enjoy Rody's vocals now, very full of emotion and compassion. 'Turn Soonest to the Sea' sends chills down my back. And the lyrics are pretty incredible. They seem a tad pretentious at times, but I guess any band undertaking an album of this magnitude would, so I can't really hold it against them.

for some reason, protest the hero and 300 go hand in hand together for me.

This is between a 3 and 3.5 for me. There are some amazing tracks here, but some of them just don't do it for me.

This album.
Is very great in my opinion.
I think it just blends so much that controversy was asked for.
Nice Review, Spectacular Album.

Their new shit is so fucking awesome, I'm having trouble waiting for it. I've only heard two songs though.

Where can you hear that at?
Live.
Believe it or not, Rody has more range than Howard. Most people just can't get over his tone. Hopefully Arif will do some growls on the new album, same with Rody. Arif can sound almost exactly like Mohammed based on recent performances and Rody's developed a nice little guttural himself, but it'll be clean oriented once more.

You can hear VERY brief snippets by going to their site, clicking on "List" in the video player and watching the studio video. Forgot to mention that.

I meant Rody's tone people can't get over. But yeah, check their site for some brief clips. It's just fragmented clips of them fucking about in the studio during pre-production, but it's better than nothing. This Message Edited On 05.12.07

Ugh so close to a five but I thought the ending was a bit sub-par.

I personally love A Plateful of Our Dead. It's the most important track on the album because it's the only one that explains their personal views, where as the rest of the tracks are allegorical. Sure, it has the only lyrical falter ("If I believed in meat, I'd eat a plateful of our dead"), but I love the way it ends the album.
I just wish the piano at the start of "No Stars" didn't get cut out in production of the album, it was so awesome. I still have a copy of that part somewhere.
