I agree with Gyro about House of Balloons. Easily my favorite album of 2011. This and Thursday are both really amazing too though.

This is definitley my favorite of the three, but House of Balloons is an extremely close second. "Outside" and "XO / The Host" is such a fucking insanely awesome sequence.

They're scared of "The Fall'
|

i really really love 'the fall' but i've seen a few people in this thread dislike it. not sure why
The beat just really doesn't go anywhere. I know that might seem a little strange because it's a beat, but it feels as if it's on the brink of exploding but Clams always seems to stop just short of the tipping point. He reins it in when it would be so much effective if he just let it go

The beat just really doesn't go anywhere. I know that might seem a little strange because it's a beat, but it feels as if it's on the brink of exploding but Clams always seems to stop just short of the tipping point. He reins it in when it would be so much effective if he just let it go Nah, man. I think it works so well exactly because it never explodes. Pay attention to the lyrics. "The peak ain't reached but the peak is all I feel." There's like this building tension that represents how "the fall" is imminent. Then finally, at the end, the beat sort of rides out into a steady jam. He's like whatever, he's not scared, so he's just going with it and enjoying the high. It's a perfect song really.

Yeah there's building tension, but nothing comes of it musically. For a project that's been built under the impression of excess, restraint just doesn't work given the material

people are still talking about this? so last year, get with the time bros.

Eh, there would be no connection to the lyrics if it did anything other than it does. I have "Initiation" for when I want a song that goes all out. Restraint is a positive thing in certain situations.

The thing is there doesn't have to be a connection. Clams just made a half assed beat (what else is new) that stumbles around without really doing anything
|

I AIN'T SCARED OF THE FALL
should be good enough for you. of all people i would think you could appreciate a beat that never drops dev.

Clams just made a half assed beat (what else is new) Ah, now we've gotten to the root of the problem.
|
| |
Not really. Just because I'm not the biggest Clams fan doesn't mean that I'm predisposed to dislike everything he does

Count on Sputnik users to pick apart and analyze every detail of every album buzzing.
If the music is good, it's good. If it blows, it blows.
I could write a god damn thesis paper on this album.

Hard to pick a favorite between this and HoB. And yes Thursday is great too.
All I know is that my favorite pass time for the past year has been to put on the ever-growing library of The Weeknd songs on shuffle, get high, and fuck. And it's been a great year.
