This and Free Hand are the Gentle Giant records to die for
Most of the rest are still proper good ofc

Power and the Glory's my personal favorite, but honestly you can't go wrong with any of the pre-Interview GG albums. And even Interview's pretty good too, just not at the standard of previous records. In fact, I'd say the only GG album that's just flat-out not worth listening to is Giant for a Day

No doubt, have a bit of a harder time with Power and Glory/Glass House compared to the other early stuff, my favorites of theirs have that goofy nerd bounce to 'em, and those two sound a little more austere (as much as anything with unannounced glockenspiel solos can be)
But that's all in that "personal taste" boring sort of discourse lmao, band fucking rocks

"have a bit of a harder time with Power and Glory/Glass House compared to the other early stuff"
I feel you, there's a certain cold detachment that rubs me the wrong way although Free Hand came later and it's often my favorite GG together with AtT. I guess my justification is that on FH the poppiness actually worked in their favor to steer the acrobatics in a direction that appeals to me more, plus His Last Voyage is best song ever material.
Incredible band anyway [2]

thread is full of great takes today. Free Hand and Octopus are also my favorites of theirs. they're definitely the most fun while lacking the stiffness of some of their later albums and also improving the songwriting from their earlier material
Acquiring the Taste through Free Hand is in the top 3 for best discog run for a classic prog band. incredible band [3]

Three Friends always gets underrated same with the debut. Some of their best shit

Three Friends is awesome. I love that little concept of three friends who take different paths in life and then meet back up at the end. And songs like Schooldays (gotta love the polyrhythms) and Working All Day (gotta love that saxophone work) absolutely rule

Don't forget Peel the Paint. Probably my favorite song by them

Yeah, I love the violin work on that one. Plus, that weird Echoplex solo by Gary Green

And the grade a riff

the guitar riff is on some straight Black Sabbath shit. The violin parts remind me of Vivaldi and the blues guitar solo section has that Jimi Hendrix flair. Just amazing
