Speaking of By The Way, John tears the shit out of Don't Forget Me Live, love that fucking guy!

Can't Stop is the song that made me love music so much, so I can't help but harbor sappy feelings for it.

Where's the love for this album? Yeah, there are a couple of 'meh' tracks, but overall it's pretty awesome. I swear, 'til the day I die, I'll never get sick of Raindance Maggie's cowbell outro.

I actually might bump my rating. Really enjoying this at the moment though Kiedis does have his cringe-worthy moments. (The verses in Factory of Faith practically kill the song for me, luckily the outro is tits in my mouth).
The second half is weaker than the first half, that said.
Also Dance Dance Dance reminds me of Modest Mouse a teensy bit.

i don't know what are some people here complaining about.
it's classical RHCP album. very strong as a whole.
to compare this album to their breakthrough album is realy lame. as a listener you can lost "virginity" to rhcp once and that's it. i mean....always the same story, the old stuff is better than new one, the old guitarist are better than new one, old guitars or amps are better than new one,..........bla.bla.bla.
i don't know what reviewer expected from the new album ? or what was ment with no progress, or they should go into another direction ? it's rhcp album, with rhcp sound, rhcp way of playing, rhcp way of singing, and so on.
i don't know......should they maybe transfom to some f.... coldplay or some other f.....british band or something else or what?
also this ongoing complaining about frusciante....in my oppinion the way of guitar playing and sound between john and josh is very similar.
My rating 4.5

With respect, I disagree entirely.

4.5 is a pretty ridiculous rating for a record which lacks any form of ambition and with absolutely nothing new. When I listen it I always feel like I have heard all that before but in different albums which is the biggest problem I have with this record. I kinda feel like they shouldn't have bothered at all but they still get a generous 3.5 from me for being my favorite band.

I disagree with the general reception of the album. To me, it's their best and most cohesive album since Californication. The arrangements and the band's musicianship are really excellent. I love how Flea-driven the band is again which has always been their strongest suit.
|
| |
Yeah Flea and Chad bring it which is great and Josh is fine, Kiedis is such a weak link on this record though

that and the songs are painfully mediocre

the album has some really catchy tracks and some tracks that are the average RHCP tracks. however, this isn't a bad record. I wait for the next album, hopefully Josh will have more room for his ideas

they don't have any ideas
|

Josh is a very talented guy, it's worth checking out some of his other projects.
The main problems they have are Kiedis completely running out of original ideas and potentially good
songs being ruined by awful choruses

and awful lyrics/delivery, or basically kiedis being in the studio at all
|
| |
They should just give him the boot and be a three piece with Klinghoffer on vocals. He is by far the best singer in the band

well, during By The Way and Stadium Arcadium (obviously not all the lyrics), his writing improved a bit as he went on to talk about different things or just wrote from a different angle, but here there are as always those Kiedis topics and half of the lyrics are subpar
|
| |
Yeah there was some kind of depth to his lyricism then but now he just comes up with whatever random crap will rhyme it's so frustratingly obvious how much less effort he puts in compared to the other guys

Just watched the videos for the singles off this album, and I love the fact that RHCP still take pride in the quality of their videos.
Might bump this up to a 4 soon ^_^
