Sophisti-pop has been my go-to genre lately, can't get enough. Anyone who tries to say the '80s was rubbish for music, just show them a band like this. Can't find any modern bands doing any of that, besides Destroyer and newer Steven Wilson projects.

anyone who says the 80s was bad for music is stupid

My friend does prefabish music as “miserable chillers” #Plug

Every decade has its good and bad. Hard to call one decade better or worse than the others since genres evolve and become more or less popular as time goes on.
That said, I don't think this album is special whatsoever. But at the same time, the 80s birthed some of my favourite albums of all time.

i love this album but i'm gonna be real here and drop this on you: this album sounds like every john hughes 80s teen drama/comedy/coming of age movie distilled and perfected

I solely listened to the re-recorded version of When Love Breaks Down (on the Two Wheels Good edition) for two months thinking that it was the original the entire time

Anyone aching for music in a similar vain to this, i recommend delving into the first 3 albums of the guy who is responsible for the majority of this records sound and arrangements: Thomas Dolby

and yeah if anything dolby's "Budapest By Blimp" is like this album encapsulated in a song, or at least "Desire As". other than that i'd be daft if you can point me to a song in some dumb john huges film that sounds anything like this heavenly album. unfortunately i HAVE been exposed to them, and do remember the soundtracks pretty reasonably,

Never seen that film, or any of his work, but glad it’s bringing this somewhat forgotten band into the limelight
