I agree with what Frankie is saying though

You cats are letting a lot of good music slip by simply because you've heard Burial and decided that you now know dubstep. I mean, this obviously isn't everyone but there's still a large contingent of people who are like that. This isn't just Sput though

thats for every genre outside metal and indie though dev. most of the site think 'i know that genre and i like it because i give x album 4.5'.

But it's not like people would be hearing all those albums if they didn't know Burial. In fact i've seen mad users who will post lists asking for more dubstep after hearing untrue. it's one thing if you're really enthusiastic about getting more coverage for the genre on the site, but it's irritating to just see certain users posting about how the faggots on the review site are mindless conformists who praise anything that burial puts out and disregard the rest of the genre.

Not at all

In fact i've seen mad users who will post lists asking for more dubstep after hearing untrue.

I know, I've made several recs lists and yet hardly anyone actually checks them out

but it's irritating to just see certain users posting about how the faggots on the review site are mindless conformists who praise anything that burial puts out and disregard the rest of the genre.

So what? It's true, deal with it

just because i haven't heard much out of Burial doesn't mean know i know dubstep

Exactly....

i'm pretty sure i know several users who've found out about distance, clubroot, pariah, guido, vex'd, ital tek etc. from you specifically. i recommend emo albums all the time, i get virtually ignored by most users on the subject. Does that mean that i can write off people who aren't into the genre as hivemind faggots? Making rec lists is an awesome thing to do, however you can't feel offended when they don't get as much attention as you'd like them to.

So what? It's true, deal with it

and i'm saying that insulting the people who you're preaching to is childish.

some genres are not going to be received as well as others. every genre has that one artist who people claim are the best of the genre, yet they know nothing about(minor threat for hardcore, american football for emo, the tallest man on earth or bon iver for folk, battles for math rock). the point is that it's a waste of time to fret over shit like that. cater to those who will listen, there's no point in complaining on every burial thread about how their liking of him is uneducated.

I'm not writing anyone off

Making rec lists is an awesome thing to do, however you can't feel offended when they don't get as much attention as you'd like them to.

Nor am I offended; this has absolutely nothing to do with me. My "problem" is that I see a lot of people simply stuck in this one corner who generally seem unwilling to check out more of something they apparently love. I just don't understand why people who claim to love this not wanting to/actually checking out more of the same

and i'm saying that insulting the people who you're preaching to is childish.

Telling people to get out and explore the scene isn't an insult, it's advice

there's no point in complaining on every burial thread about how their liking of him is uneducated.

Again I think you're missing the point. Liking Burial isn't a sign of being uneducated; I'm just generally puzzled that for all the people who claim to love this haven't explored other artists in hopes of potentially making the same connection

edit: hope i didn't sound too harsh either, i do like your presence on the site

No, not at all. Like I said though, I think you might have missed the point of what I was trying to say. Half of that is probably my fault for not articulating my point, and instead just doing the casual [2] to everything that had already been said

deviant being a haughty shithead about stupid things, who would have guessed

Speaking of insults though: Robertsona you are fuckin stupid 90% of the time. You have no idea what you or I am actually talking about

alright yeah i get you. i just thought you were in agreement with the sort of "fuck off user fags" sentiment. while i obviously don't feel as strong about it as you do, i agree that people should be more open to expanding their horizons and hearing more of the genre.

I like this a lot more than I first did. I listen to it a lot more than untrue these days, but only because it's fresher and shorter. Still really awesome.

Not surprised in the slightest that the title track is popping up on Four Tet's Fabric mix
