The music stands perfectly fine on its own, but Don Van Vliet's inane ramblings are hilarious

I'm not even basing it off the influence, it just is a really fun album

can't get past "comedic jam session"

I thought I read somewhere that the whole thing was meticulously constructed

From what I read it didn't really seem that way.

But it doesn't detract from the album to me, this obviously isn't for everyone and I can completely understand why people wouldn't like it.

Really though listen to some free jazz and that will seem like a bunch of guys warming up and fucking around if you never listened to it before. This has that same feeling but once it clicks it just makes sense and its great. You def gotta listen more than once to me though.

yeah I'll admit that I've only heard this two or three times so it's probably not enough to get my head around and understand or whatever but I'm also thinking why bother persisting when I already have not enough time to listen to everything I wanna hear

might try some of his others then maybe come back to this if I dig em

Well yea dont force yourself if you dont want tommy and this is his most out there album so start with his others first. Safe As Milk is easy to like and he made some great albums towards the end of his career like Shiny Beast and Doc at the Radar Station that are more accessible but still have the beefheart charm.

I dunno, lakie, I tend to really like old people music. this guy/band is also extremely influential to

many later bands (most of which rule hard af).

it seriously just sounds like every member of the band is playing a seperate song at the same time while some drunk dude rambles over it
