the singer has such a fackin horrible voice. he's definitely one to lock in the basement when the relatives are round singing carols. that's what murdered FYEBs for me. his voice reminds me of an old tone-deaf friend who received an award in 6th grade for singing hymns so loud. I couldn't believe what was happening, in the same way I can't believe people would spend time and money writing good songs only to have someone's obnoxious wailing plastered over the top. i suppose many of you find it endearing. but the writing on this release is better than FYEBs imo. i'm thinking a 3.

listened to one of their songs. he sounds a lot better there (maybe not quite beautiful), I can't even be sure it's the same person singing. the 'broken voice thing' sounds awful to me and I don't understand why anyone would do it on purpose.

i think his singing got a lot more solid on this album, but I mean it really depends whether you like sort of high, strained vocals. Probably generates some sort of youthful feel or something.

At least he's straying away from the solid wail that was mainly on FYEB (which I still love).
He's not a great singer, but he's a great vocalist.
