You're right! The Ritual used to be my favorite here, and it's the one I listen to the least now. It's still a gem, don't get me wrong. And it's the most immediate of the bunch imo.

The album is all great. This is a a perfect masterpiece as I wrote on my review about it.
Jethro, it's now time for you change your rating, at least for 4.5. 4.0 doesn't suit very well to your good taste and prog profile. Ah! Ah! Ah!...
For instance, I follow your advise and I changed my rating of "The Quiet Zone/The Pleasure Dome" and "Interview" from 3.5 to 4. As you can see I follow the advises of my good friends with good taste. Ah! Ah! Ah!...

Best chance the next time, bro ;)
I don't know if I might give a higher score to the album. While the music is very ambitious and experimental (band never approached that kind of Symphonic prog before), and every songs have their majestic moments, I feel that there are at least five minutes to cut in each songs. It's already too much to swallow, so it would be a good thing to cut the superfluous, cos there are some to me.
As for your new ratings, I really think the albums deserve it. 3.5 remained a legit rating for both albums though. Would be practical if all like the staff, we could rate stuff at let say 3.8
And we really have good taste in music, it's a fact ;) and our ratings are always similar, it shows we're from the same generation! Cheers man!

I'm not shitting on Topographic but it's one of the ultimate self indulgent prog albums of all time for a reason and too much melodies and not enough rock. Sandwiched in between Closer and Relayer makes it seem so much weaker than it really is.
I recently went through their post Drama discography for the first time in most albums. Then I started with the first 2, then Tormato , then this. I'm doing a IMO weakest to best sequence. I probably enjoyed this the most I have ever coming off of all their other albums, even though I don't hate Tormato by any means.
I think i'm gonna bump from 3-4... tempted.. baby steps.. 3.5 it is.

Just relistened to the first track and well it's... exceptional, actually. There was a bit of annoying keyboard section at some point but other than that it was always one very melodious bit after the other. Need to relisten to the album.
Also Wilson's mix slays

average for this could stand to be a couple points higher imo
