"now I know you're talking out your ass because it's no secret that I listen to a ridiculous selection of not only pop punk but punk from all walks of life. not to mention I've introduced a lot of truly awesome underground acts to this site. that statement is so far from the truth and ignorant that it's actually insulting. "
No, I checked out your "best pop-punk of 2011" list and tried listening to all of the bands because I was in a pop-punk mood but the fact that they were all bland and generic was just a teeeeensy bit of a turn-off. The only ones I liked were already well-established but shit like Decades? Really? They're terrible. Yeah you listen to pop-punk with 125 Last.fm listeners but they're still shitty so yeah.
and I wasn't talking about other punk, though...? I was talking about your bland taste in pop-punk. It's like when I was super super super into skramz and post-hardcore so I would scour Last.fm and Bandcamp and shit trying to find the next most obscure artists of the genre because I felt like an expert on it but in the end in retrospect about 80% of them were really mediocre.

also, judging her lyrics is kind of silly. Some of them are too dumb to ignore (like on the filler of Animal) but the lyrics are either irrelevant or lovely satire on the pop industry, or they try and make a gender role reversal. The point is that the music itself is fun, the songwriting is done to hype you up and it's lovely in general. Of course people going into this looking for "being deep" or "advanced musicianship" are going to be disappointed, but that's missing the point entirely. It's like criticizing Southern hip-hop for not being poetic enough for you.

It wasn't an assumption that you literally did exactly what I did, I was saying that's what I did when I considered myself a "skramz expert" and the point was that the grand majority of the pop-punk I've seen you either recommend or go gaga for is either just plain bad or generic.
"I think I'll start believing it when it
comes from my well versed pop punk friends on here who actually know me instead of someone who defends kesha."
That kind of sounds dumb but oh well I'll just leave that be.

Reading through this, I really expected the next response after "it sucks hard" to be "but not like she did" or something. What a bizarre thread. My condolences.
