With all due respect, you are a bodom fan. I am too but he was a bad vocalist
|

his favorite genre is power metal which is exclusively bad vocals

not technically capable =/= bad just as every kind of possible technique =/= good alexi's wtfever vox were perfect for the context, now you transpose his voice onto de mysteriis then yeah theyre gonna be fkn terrible

Attila is a more talented vocalist than alexi who really didn't know what he was doing. I can't think of any bm vocalists more technically able than Attila

Well, you said Attila was a terrible vocalist. I'm saying he's objectively not in terms of his ability within the genre

i said he sounds like shit not that he doesnt have technical ability, im sure he's spent many an hour in front of the mirror trying to get his throat to imitate as many dying animals as possible
the point was technicality doesnt mean anything if all it does is make the music sound like anal beads
and this and ordo are far more avant garde than bm anyway, they dont rly belong to the genre it just gets tacked onto it because mayhem

You say that like it's a bad thing

"You say that like it's a bad thing"
No cap. That would mean true dedication for a bm vocalist. In all honesty Attila is one of my fav bm vocalists, love his eclectic, unhinged style full of theatrics. His work with Sunn O))) is insane too.

This is probably the Mayhem album I go back to most, though I prefer the remaster.
The statement at the start of this review about Christianity's conservatism and stagnation can also apply to black metal purists who insist on black metal being trv and abiding by very restrictive rules.

The pseudo-Mike Patton vox do a lot of work undermining the occasionally badass music.

Maniac was definitely trying out some experimental styles on this one lol. I still dig it but its easily my least fav Mayhem.

I’m conflicted because the music itself is pretty rad. Amazing drumming (as usual) and some hard as riffs. Can’t take those spoken sections seriously though lol.

Yeah its a little too corny in spots and that drags it down. Blasphemer always delivers on the riffs and Hellhammer is a legend of course.

This was my first Mayhem album and still my favorite. It's as though Dimension: Hatross had a black metal baby. The occasional cheese and bad experimentation only adds character.
A lot of the experimental black metal albums from this time period are super cheesy with some really bad experimentation, and they're still awesome. I'm talking about bands like Arcturus, ... And Oceans, Moonspell, Todtgelichter, and Solefald.

what kinda fuckin asshole puts a picture of a dead bird on their album cover

The same assholes that would make jewelry out of their friend's skull after he killed himself...
Edit: Although I guess that isn't really an accurate comparison since the guy that did that ended up dead too, and isn't actually on this album.
