456.
And even if you don't include it, that's 2 outstanding albums and another great album.

Too bad 808s isn't a hip hop album

Don't pretend like that album didn't involve hip-hop along with R&B and pop. He raps on more than one occasion on that album, as well as having guest rapper spots.

How isn't he? Kanye and Weezy haven't made a good album in YEARS now. Cudi has made two fantastic ones in the last 2 years. Nevermind that both Kanye and Weezy are overrated as shit to begin with.

weezy made carter III in 2008 which is better than anything cudis ever done

I'd strongly disagree with that. Carter III was like a 3 in my eyes, far too much watered-down hip-pop for my taste. Both of Cudi's albums are easy 4's in my book. Weezy was so much better in the first half of the past decade than the latter half.

I know everyone is just expressing their opinion, but damn? Are we really saying Kid Cudi is better than Kanye now based on two albums? C'mon son (*Ed Lover style).

Don't get me wrong I like Cudi's music, but you'd have to take the best tracks off both this album and his first to make a legitimate arguement that it could then somehow trump Kanye's Graduation, let alone Yeezy's complete discography (w/ 808's & Heartbreak being the exception). In terms of Cudi vs Lil Wayne... I will say that Wayne has yet to (in my opinion) show that he can pull off being more than a rapper. Rebirth... was horrible. If some artist would have made the exact same album, track for track, I doubt it would even have a chance of being listened to. However, Cudi (as evident with this album) can literally just make "music" with disregard as to whether it is "Hip Hop" or not and provide a good listen.

That being said there are some amazing tracks on MOTM2, but I'm not feelin' the album as a whole. Maybe it will grow on me more over time, but right now Trapped in My Mind, These Worries, Erase Me, & Ashin' Kusher (the party joint) stay on repeat. One thing I enjoy above all though is that Cudi's music is different and provides a welcomed break away from the other $%@* that seems to make it's way to radio now-a-days. It's hard to simply call this a Hip Hop album, but I guess people lose their mind when they can't "label" or categorize something so it makes sense to them. Eh... #kanyeshrug...I digress.

If Cudi ever makes a rock album, it's going to be awesome.

As for the Kanye comment...why is it so ridiculous for someone to think Cudi's two albums are better than Kanye's work? It's not like Kanye is some hip-hop god or something, he made two great albums, one good one, and one atrocious one. Hardly Tupac Shakur. I don't see the big deal.

Personally, I find 'Erase Me' to be cudi's absolute worst song, ever. That being said, cudi making a rock record would be ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Whenever he tries to play rock, it ends up sounding so generic, bland, etc.. almost anyone could spit some decent lyrics over a simple song structure like that.

As for this album, I am disappointed so far. In The End of Day, Cudi seemed to blend the darkness, creative lyrics, and beats all perfectly. I have a feeling that this album is a grower, so it is very likely that I will change my opinion. Nice review, by the way!

@birhoover I actually think this is much, much darker than his first album, especially the lyrical content. Alot of these songs revolve around Cudi lamenting on how fame has changed him but that the same lonely sadness remains inside of him. The Mood and MANIAC are especially rather dark.

I never said that I didn't think this album was dark. For sure, songs like 'The Mood' are very going down that road, but I just like how cudi pulled it off in The End of the Day better. I'm just ready for this album to grow me already, need some more classic smoking tunes =D
