the part where you helpfully reminded us that Nick Butler's opinions aren't more important than the rest of us mere mortals almost caused me to vomit and laugh hysterically at the same time

A cultural document of how competent musicianship has been overblown into notions of a profound, sweeping genius.

I'm only taking gripes with the term "generation defining", clearly they impacted cultural trends far beyond the immediate reach of their own works. For a cult band of their status, this cannot be denied.

But to define a generation, what is this. The essence of an entire generation cannot be defined merely by pop culture, let alone a single album. All people of all races and all colours did not unite on a hill to hold hands and sing Airbag when OK Computer was released upon the world.

see that's not the part that i take exception to. I think you could dissect a population within its terms (e.g., the generation of the american youth in the 1960's, the disco generation, generation X).

My problem is that Radiohead doesn't qualify. Critical consensus =/= consensus, no matter how much the elitists wish it was so.

that would be uniting a generation not defining it tbh

These are all white people concepts, and white people need to learn their opinions don't matter.

they're anthropological constructs, so they're social science-based concepts. regardless of whether anthropology is a white man's science (it's foundations sure dictate as much), splitting up people into groups based on their common attributes is not rooted in opinion.
