i think you guys are overthinking this album. really, i do, and i wouldn't say that about pretty
much anything
here's my thesis statement: the music contained within this album is not good. it is loops, none
of which are particularly interesting, looped for really long times. it is very boring
this could be a matter of opinion or whatever, but i feel like even those who praise this album
agree with me (i can't imagine someone listening to this album and actually thinking, "this
music right here deserves a 5"), but they find some sort of extramusical merit to give it a classic
status. the way in which basinski derived the music or the story behind it or anything else doesn't
matter. the end result is not good music!!

I guess you're just not reading what I'm saying, because you keep going off on the same tangent.
|

i guess i just have an irreconcilable problem with giving high ratings to music for reasons other than
"i enjoy it/i like it"

I understand what Gyromania is saying, but he said it really wrong.
|
| |
I said it wrong? How so?
|
| |
gyro i don't get it do you not enjoy the album then? to enjoy its effect on your studying or sleeping patterns is still enjoying it some sense is it not?
I don't know i mean i really like to fall asleep to "god only knows" but i also enjoy it in a lucid state and if i can't appreciate music in the most basic listening format, then it's not of much value to me.

| |
i dont enjoy this even on the level most people claim they do; i think there's much better, sonically more beautiful/"full"/etc. calm and placid music out there for sleeping and studying and whatever

Eno: fair question. I enjoy the benefits I reap from listening to it. As a piece of music I don't find it very engaging, but I appreciate its value in helping me think deeply and focus on whatever it is I'm doing. I choose to not rate the album because a rating would indicate that I find the music enjoyable, but I use it for purely academic purposes and to help align myself.

Ah, you remembered me.
Hey, man. Not much here, but I'm waiting to post a review here in a bit.
|

i guess i see what you're saying.
i know this will sound really facetious and obnoxious, but noise machines are great for that kind of thing as well.
@crowe: of course dude you were a user when being on sputnik was fun

Still waiting for you to tell me how I could have conveyed my point better, Crowe.

pos'd, great review
I'm really really liking this a lot. You said it pretty much perfectly; it's alarmingly "simple" but it just feels so, i dont know, grand or something. The concept or whatever is actually pretty cool too. I like when art makes an interesting point in a subtle but striking way. ugh i dunno i dated a visual arts major for four years so I kind of eat that shit up haha.
