I had Carry Me Ohio playing on loop about 16 times in a row a few weeks ago

I can see why, this whole thing is great but I really just want to listen to "Carry Me Ohio" over and over.
If I have a general complaint so far it's that the vocals get a bit too lost in the mix somehow, it could just be Kozelek's singing style here but I have a hard time making out the lyrics a lot of the time. The songs also tend to be a bit one-note, not really changing up even though most of them are fairly long.

The album is 'of a piece', relaxing a lot of the time, I think the uniformity is the project's strength - the lyrics are also really good I'd say, but Koz's voice isn't for everyone
I think you have to be in a leisurely mood for Mark most of the time- atmosphere, feel and ambience are often his main concern
I'll sometimes listen to his stuff before going to sleep, it has that appeal.
If you want 'proper storytelling' maybe 'Benji' will be more your boy?

Oh man it was hard to see past “Carry Me Ohio” on first few passes but everything else is starting to set their hooks in now.

The decline in quality from this through his recent work is literally insane

I like the collaboration one he just released tbh
The title track on that one could bring a tear to a glass eye
Stuff like 'Gustavo' or 'You Missed My Heart' is just as good as this, just listen to one of his recent live albums - different but still a class above in the genre

there are some songs on the last few albums that truly knock my socks off. the moderately talented young woman etc etc etc something something is a perfect song

it's a lot more hit and miss for sure - and I think sometimes he's releasing stuff at such a rate he realises a large chunk of this material is for one listen, maybe two, and that is all you need
they are musically backed dispatches from the frontline of Koz's life - they aren't trying to be songs for the ages, he's bored of that, he's released enough albums of that type as he constantly attests. I agree with him.
I don't want another five Admiral Fell Promises

How could someone not love, say, the version of Gustavo on 'Live at Biko'?
Lyrics are so much more moving than on this sort of stuff for me (and I rate this a 5, the lyrics are pretty but not as great as the best of what he's writing now), he's reconnected with the personal edge he had on early RHP and it is to be celebrated imo but maybe that is just me
