This is alot better than I origially thought, its probably now one of my favorite deftones albums right up there with White Pony

Still the most overlooked Deftones album in my mind. It's not White Pony 2 as most people like to ignorantly categorize it; it's darker and more brutal than WP, yet has a softer, more touching vibe than WP has too. Unfortunately this is has now moved to my third favorite Deftones album behind WP and Diamond Eyes =D

yeah, I've never understood why this was compared with WP.. they're totally different albums in my mind. Definitely darker, definitely heavier, and with less of a running narrative through the lyrics. In fact, everything about this album is more varied than WP. I still like this more than Diamond Eyes, but that could change as time goes on.
I still think Deathblow and Battle Axe are two of the best songs Deftones ever wrote.

Oh yes definitely. Battle Axe and Deathblow are such gloomy, brooding epics and tracks that rarely get talked about I feel. Definitely both are in my top 3 on the album

Not to mention When Girls Telephone Boys, which is the song I want playing when I'm whooping the shit outta someone

yep, along with Needles & Pins for me. Good Mourning Beautiful, Bloody Cape, Minerva and Moana would be in the next tier.

yeah bout 5 or 6 songs on here are some of my all time fav tones songs

Fuck the haters, album is nearly groundbreaking. I honestly think they couldn't have followed up White Pony any better. If SNW would've followed WP, I have a strange feeling it would've been ripped harder than this album gets it. I just listened to this all the way through twice lol, can't believe how many times I've listened to this in my life and never even come close to getting bored of it

Honestly my three favorite songs here are the three singles...Hexagram is amazing even if the chorus is slightly irritating.

Minerva is actually pretty mediocre for Deftones standards, still a good song. I guess one could say the same about Hexagram but thanks to Stephen's amazing main riff that's not the case.

I thought Minerva was boring the first time I heard it but it's pretty powerful, and the sound is just massive.
|
| |
I always thought it was an odd first single, but it makes sense seeing as how it is the 'tones we're talking about

Yea it's got a powerful wall of sound but that's about what I dig about it. Shame the 'tones haven't got a 5-string man to create these massive bass lines anymore, like on the past three albums or so.
|
| |
I only like Minerva off this.

Sigh....

that's interesting because Minerva's like the 5th or 6th best track on this album ;-)

I agree. Minerva is the only good track. The rest of this is kind of useless.
|
| |
I'd put Battle-Axe as best cut off of this
I'm going to have to sort you out Willie

this thread contains multiple discussions between bloc and me concerning my love for this album, and his disdain for every track outside of Minerva
edit: and yeah, Battle Axe would be my second, behind Deathblow. Then Needles & Pins, Bloody Cape and maybe then Minerva.. but Good Mourning Beautiful.. I dunno.
