Yeah Bitches Brew is just so goddamn inaccessible...you gotta have like an afternoon set aside to enjoy it right

i mean... its a 2 hour album, thats not that impossible or uncommon

it's pretty damn uncommon lol. can't even think of any other 2+ hour long jazz albums aside from that Washington fellow
but yeah like dedex was saying, shorter albums I think have the potential to be more memorable because you can listen to them more times. like Birth of the Cool, you can listen to that 4 times before even finishing Brew. I know that album like the back of my hand (but I also just think it's perfect)

You have to be in the mood for brew.
This one sets the mood.
Cannot fault Brews groove though. It’s one of the greatest.

"Bitches Brew it a mammoth sprawling headfuck of a listen. This is subtle. I’d take this but absolutely love Brew as well."
"You have to be in the mood for brew. This one sets the mood."
Zak spittin' wisdom. Pretty much agree with everything, and enjoy each of them separately for the specific reasons you mention. This is a subtle guy, a nice comfy listen at just under forty minutes, and yet it never fails to amaze me or captivate me. As I mentioned before, the first time that bass motif comes in around 8:18 on the title track and when the drums explode at 13:11 are two of the best moments in all of music imo. Absolute frisson-laden euphoria.
Bitches Brew is much more complex and groovy, requires more attention, and demands a bit more from the listener, which makes it more of a selective choice, but it's equally amazing imo.
Miles Davis from '68 to '74 was pretty much a god.
"i mean... its a 2 hour album, thats not that impossible or uncommon"
I believe it's only 90 minutes, unless you've got an extended edition with additional sessions or something.
Yeah Bitches Brew is just so goddamn inaccessible.
It's a lot of things but "inaccessible" isn't one of 'em.

Yeah man. Title Track on this thing taps into magic.

lol sorry, always found this to be a little overrated among Miles' vast & incredible discog
also, "inaccessible" meaning very long and dense. unlike other radio-friendly albums of his that have short catchy songs.

This album in particular was a big inspiration for Mark Hollis when Talk Talk decided to take a more "post-rock" direction. Makes a lot of sense, because I heard a lot of 'Laughing Stock' here, both in tone and structure. That opening segment of the title track specifically, and the way it transitions into 'It's About That Time'.
Perfection.

Worth checking out to begin with Big Fun, which is a few minutes longer than Bitches Brew, and also Get Up With It, which actually is more than two hours long. Plus all those double live albums he did around that time (I particularly like Dark Magus). If you dig electric Miles you'll probably like all that stuff too.

@Tectactoe
Hollis also cited Porgy and Bess as one of the main influences on late Talk Talk.
There is actually a documentary about Talk Talk that has been in production for a few years now. It's called 'In a Silent Way'.

No shit? Any idea if there's an expected/targeted release date? I'd love to see it. 'Laughing Stock' was a very formative album for me, and one of the greatest ever written. (And Mark Hollis was one of the greatest musicians of his time, imo.)
