I'm pissed that I've only seen Metallica twice. Once on the Load tour with COC, and last October with Lamb of God. The Load tour show was about 10 times better, because it was before Hetfield turned into a therapist touting pussy.
Hetfield in 97 to the crowd (SAY FUCK YEAH JAMES!) (WE DONT GIVE A SHIT!) (LETS DRINK SOME FUCKING BEERS)
Hetfield in 09 (Hi friends, I would like to thank everyone in the Metallica family for coming out, we really appreicate it, we really love you all).

^yeah pretty much. My first experience was in 2000, not 97, but it was still before sober Hetfield. He was like your second example the last two times I saw them ('03 and '09). I think we were at the same tour Hans, only I was in Indianapolis -- Lamb of God w/ Doc from God Forbid on guitar and Gojira were the openers?

Yep, I saw it at Target Center in Minneapolis.

The Load Tour was fantastic. If you watch the Cunning Stunts DVD, it is pretty much the same show I saw, although that show took place in Fort Worth and I saw them in Fargo. But it was sweet, they had their stage set to blow up at the end.

Yeah I was only 17 when I saw drunk Hetfiled, ironically I was sober. I was wasted seeing sober Hetfield.
I was such a Metallica fanboy that I skipped a varsity basketball game I was supposed to play in to go to the concert. Coach wasnt exactly thrilled.

haha, yeah my coach would not have tolerated that. I would've had to be on my death bed or something. That's interesting though, because I saw drunk Hetfield sober and sober Hetfield while I was pretty drunk. I guess we were both sober in 2003.

I wish I would have stayed somewhat sober for the last show. I can remember almost every second of the 97 show, I can remember roughly half of the last one.

ah, yeah I stayed sober enough to remember everything. I was right in front of the stage last fall, so I really just got a little drunk before the show and had a beer that I bought on the way down, and was also able to sneak one right before Metallica's set. I think my fiancee might have brought me one down too, but there was no time for a beer run really.

there is always time for another beer run

Beer runs are hard if you're in the front row of a pit. When I saw Metallica last I had horseshit nose bleed seats, although it was pretty easy to walk 10 feet and grab a beer.
|
| |
yah thats why you start downing beers as soon as you get to the venue so you're ready to go before teh show starts :P

Or sneak in a flask.

ima joking, i always try to avoid buying beer at venues (except to top up) cause its far too over-priced. normally i just go to the pub or something beforehand
