Haha. Umm, let me play them simultaneously... Ok, I couldn't hear Foals when I did that.
Well, they're knott exactly the same type of album Adam, so the comparison is a strange one.
Can I presume you're thinking 4.5'ish also?

No, just thought I'd reaffirm how good this album is, you know for those who don't know.
And strikey so wants to join the 5 club.
|

Yes.
Nah I know cross-genre comparisons are frowned upon, but they're 2 genres I really unequivocally enjoy and you likewise, and I can't understand what makes Emery so special & this less-so. I guess I'm more trying to understand what makes something a 5 for you, because if Emery has it and this doesn't, I need to know what it is :P

"I guess I'm more trying to understand what makes something a 5 for you, because if Emery has it and this doesn't, I need to know what it is"
It's me... I thought it was pretty obvious what floated my boat... In 2 words; catchy & recitable. I know, I know; crappy pop like Ke$ha can sort of be catchy too, but it's got to have a whole bunch of components.
Put it this way, it's going to be very rare that I rate what I classify an indie album a 5. 'Funeral' may be the only one I can think of off the top of my head. So if I rate an Indie album a 4.5, it's as good as a 5 basically.

Hey, hey easy on the Ke$ha bashing, Tik Tok sodding rules. Almost as much as this.

Ugh. Just did a sound-off for that album yesterday. Ummm, no. The only reason 'Tik Tok' has ingrained a portion of itself in my mind is because you can't walk 10 metres without hearing the damn thing.

"Don't stop, make it pop. DJ, blow my speakers up. Tonight, I'mma fight, 'Til we see the sunlight. Tick tock, on the clock. But the party dont stop no...
Woah-oh-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh-oh"

"Wow I'm assuming a lot about you..."
lol yes u r, and I wouldn't be a fan of Prog if I didn't enjoy slow build ups. I can also deal with monotonous vocals as well. But this man just makes me want to go on a killin spree.

Well, i wouldn't say the vocals are the highlight of the album... Although, Yannis hits the spot perfectly on 'Spanish Sahara'. There is a moment in the 2nd verse I think where his voice quivers just a touch & it's chill-inducing.
'Black Gold' is starting to grow on me big time. I think it would have worked better as the closer though.
Also, I should have mentioned the terrific bass-lines in the review. Fantastic stuff by Walter Gervers.

Caleb, don't make me bring up the indie card.

my indie card isn't nearly as disgusting as your deck of metalcore cards tbh
