Damn junkie I've never disagreed with you (or anyone) so hard. Paice is one of my favourite drummers and rivals Bonham for me (although both have very different styles). The way Paice complements the band's sound without overshadowing the music is key to what made Purple so great. His drumming style was pretty unique and definitely creative, I particularly like his performance on the Fireball album as well as on many of DP's live albums. Paice provided a strong and necessary backbone for what was (in the 70's) a very jam orientated band whilst at the same time still having very interesting and well thought out drum parts.

Wow R&MJ, Paice would probably be in my top 20 drummers! He's so fluid around the kit and it always seems like he's doing nothing special even though it's actually insanely technical, and it always sounds incredible.
Mk II was one of the best lineups in rock

Haha, I was expecting you to come hard at me. It is probably the only thing with which we have

disagreed all these years. Idk, every fuckin time I jam Purple I end up with the same opinion. My

position hasn't changed after all these years and prob never will.

I guess we just have different views on what makes a great drummer then.

Easily, I never said he is an awful drummer. I just don't dig his style that much.

Paice is definitely in my top 10 and probably top 5. His fills on "Burn" are incredible and he was awesome live. The fact that he's the only remaining member from the original lineup says a lot too.

Peart > Bonham > Paice = Ward imo.

Not sure about the rest. It's all subjective though.

I seriously think no one can play as powerful as Powell did on Rising

Cozy is the octopus but I easily prefer Paice. Also, Don Brewer (Grand Funk Railroad) and Mitch Mitchell are up there for me.

All the drummers being discussed are great but none of them would make my top 3.
