on some of these songs they're most definitely trying too hard to be humorous (like on Batman, You Will Be Shot, A Shot in the Dark) which, ironically, is like the #1 thing to do if you want to be intentionally unfunny

Hmm I think I mean instead that theyre being ‘unintentionally unfunny’ as in when you kill a joke because youve said it too many times. So the better formulation is theyre being unintentionally unfunny because theyre trying too hard to be funny. tbh I can vaguely understand that argument when it's applied to gimmicky Pattoncore stuff, but I think every single style they reach for here comes out with so much precision and faithfulness to whichever source texts that it's beside the point to get wound up on its novelty value. Sure there are humorous bits here (that fucking Bond Theme breakdown lol) but maybe you aren't taking it seriously enough?
