Well if this was your first album then I could see why. This is their weakest album IMO.

I was told Opeth's music was too intelligent for me...

i really like Between the Buried and Me's "Alaska" and this sounds a little like that, so tell me, would i like this just based off of what i just said?

Ok I will give Opeth a second chance. What album should I aim at? This album sounds interesting though.

Okay, Dethtrasher. Knowing you, you will be hooked on Opeth almost immediatly. Get Blackwater Park, then Still Life, then My Arms Your Hearse, then Ghost Reveries, then Deliverance, then Damnation, then Morningrise, and then Orchid. Other peopple might order it diffrent, but Blackwater Park is essential to any and all metalhead's collection.

Why? This is not Opeth's best material by any means. It's very diffrent from there other stuff in a way that doesn't work for them so well. It's a good album, but not their best.

I didn;t mean to strike down your opinion, I was just stating mine and a widely thought one.

The widely thought one sucks!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding. Most people tend to disagree with me on Opeth though, and I could never figure out all the hatred for the albums I love. Ghost Reveries and Orchid are some of my favorite Opeth albums but most consider them to be their worst.

I think GR is their best so let's party baby.

/cracks a brew

Blackwater Park is the only Opeth that I gave a 5, but I could really give 5's to that, Ghost Reveries, Orchid, and Damnation.

I think with GR it could be that some people think - "Oh my god, Opeth have signed to Roadrunner, theyre now such sell outs" - and also the fact that they used more "standard" metal tunings (Drop D flat if I recall) and use a lot more open chords. I still love GR.

Blackwater's gotta be their best for me so far, I like how you threw song lyrics in bold on the side, except for the one that breaks up the paragraph. Very good review though, I'm fairly new to Opeth, having only checked out this Blackwater and Damnation. I'll probably soon check out their earlier stuff.

well, i bought this today, it's good and all, but i still prefer Alaska from BTBAM. It's more interesting and there are more of those "wow" moments on that album than this one. Still good, but definitely not as good as other metal album that i own. nice review.
