"or that Metacritic accepts it?"
yes

not really. metacritic's score is heavily weighted to "important" reviewers like Rolling Stone and sputnik gets less weight than other publications. The fact they pick up multiple staff reviews isn't terribly skewing their ratings at all.

weirdly, after listening from feels through to water curses, this sounds sort of stale in comparison. i don't know, i guess i just don't love them as much when they're as 'upfront' as here, like graze + WWIWS + i think i can. def come around to the second, though

i like it. it's good. but i do get the impression maybe i just don't like new AC as much as old AC, because Sung Tongs and especially Feels > this and MPP
|
| |
Feels > Person Pitch > Strawberry Jam > MPP > Sung Tongs > Fall be kind > Here Comes the Indian > Spirit they're gone
i haven't heard anything else i dont think

the band now finds its greatest hook (ever!) in a Grateful Dead sample true. 'tis good.. i think i like the hooks on banshee beat, cobwebs, and safer the most

"What Would I Want? Sky" and "I Think I Can" are both awesome, hence the 4 stars. Rest was good, too.
