i don't understand why people like IOS so much. it's pretty run of the mill post hardcore that borrows from Iron Maiden. Vheissu and the Alchemy Index EPs were the most artistic/ interesting releases by a long shot imo.

Yea also IOS def. has this cool relentless energetic vibe to it. It took a while for me to get into but it def. gets its credit for taking that style of music to a new level. It probably be more captivating to listen when it initially came out (2001?)

But likewise I find Vheissu/TAI/Beggars more enjoyable. While it isn't so much groundbreaking the songwriting is much much better and more pushed around with.

With all these comments, I feel a little bit ashamed to say it, but that's my favorite record of them.

Next to Vheissu and TAITA.

It sounds "run-of-the-mill" because every band and their mom imitated it/blatantly ripped it off only nowhere as good. Nothing sounded like that record when it came out. And people like it because it's fucking great, and only Vheissu touches it in quality tbqfh

Illusion of Safety > Vheissu > Artist in the Ambulance = Alchemy Index = Beggars > Identity Crisis > First Impressions

eh, there's no way i can be convinced of anything they've done remotely eclipsing vheissu and alchemy index.

It's so hard to compare one album to another, because with the exception of maybe the Illusion of Safety and Artist, each album represents Thrice growing into a different genre. Comparing Air and Earth and Water to Artist requires me to figure out which genre is my favorite...which pretty much changes with the weather.

I think they should take on Crabcore next.

Death Metal was my first choice, but if Thrice could make any genre good, Crabcore would be the one.
