I forgive you...even if I'm upset with you rating this a 3, I mean this album is pure genius.

It's a fine record... it's just missing any kind of distinguishing factor. I mean, this sounds like proggy nu-metal from the late 90s/ early 2000s (see Pulse Ultra for a great example). Themata just had so much more personality and lasting appeal; I can't remember a single track off this when it's done.

Weird. I like every single song on this album except for the 1 minute interlude
The album feels quite peaceful for most of the duration and a nice break from progressive death metal. You should listen to the album more and just notice the awesome song structures on Sound Awake. Listen to the drum lines and the guitaring and the vocals. Everything is placed very nicely.

interlude is the best on the album

How does this sound nu-metal kingsoby? Not being offended/trolling or whatever, but would like to know why you think so, cause I can't even remotely hear it.
It's crazy how this album features a much more diverse sound than Themata, but nearly all the songs utilize this exact same sound instead of breaking free from it like Set Fire does, making it sound damn out of place. Sameness in diversity I guess.

bahamut...listen to Deadman/Change without listening to the rest of the album at least, I understand getting bored in the middle part.

Not a terrible album. The music is good but lacks a LOT of direction, the vocals seem really rushed but it's major downfall is the lyrics. Nothing short of embarrasing. The more i listen to it, the worse it gets. Change had so much potential but the shitty repetitive lyrics are painful.

I mean, how do you not hear the nu-metal? it's like when the US was bored of it, it all shipped over to Australia and dug in (Butterfly Effect, Cog, Karnivool, Birds). it might not be just nu-metal like a million and one crappy bands you're thinking of, but it definitely is nu-metal tinged post-grunge at the very minimum. and that's not a bad thing, i like plenty of groups in that genre.
straight up prog? this is not.

To be fair though, most of those bands are slowly moving away from the nu metal stuff now. Like TBE's new album, theres stuff all nu metal in that, granted their EP and Begins Here was full of it. Although saying Birdies have traces of nu metal is pushing it, i would have thought they're straight up pop/alt rock.

are we talking about birds of tokyo? i fail to see ashred of nu-metal influence in them. they're pop-rock and that's it.

Album is awesome and I don't care what genre it is.

Nu-metal? Is that a joke or something. I don't see any nu metal garbage here. It's straight up clean vocals without unneccesary production values. It's progressive rock/alt rock / new prog.
@boring: Listen to the whole album, not one or two 10 minute songs. It's about the album as a whole not one song here and there.

album as a whole may be more technical than the last, but its not nearly as catchy or fun

I agree with you on the catchy and fun basis, though I just generally adore this album for all its tweaks and twangs, so to speak.

Gave this album about 10 spins now and it def. has its moments. "Simple Boy", "Goliath", "New Day" and "Deadman" are great cuts. Never really got into"Themata" that much but this album is incredible.
