The way he writes/sings, the polished jazzy arrangements, it all screams hoity-toity refinement. It feels like he's just putting on a show, there's no actual emotion here.

its just the style. refinement mixed with seemingly boundless creativity isn't such a bad thing imho

Do it if you must Fripp, I have no shame.

I've conceded that this is technically excellent I just think there's a barrier that'll prevent me from really falling I love with it. Tbh this isn't helping to deconstruct any of my preconceived notions about 80s music.

Is this really that creative though? Everything here is sourced from styles that were beyond well-established at that point. Granted I don't really care about creativity so that's not a problem for me.

lol this was totally experimental for its time wtf you smokin

apart from (arguably) everything but the girl, i know of no bands that dabbled in THIS sound before the mid 80s, and i listen to heaps upon heaps of 80s

many versions of this have forbidden as the closer, even though the original didn't. much better that way agreed... it even seems to lead directly off of the piano melodies in the final track

Idk this sounds pretty of its time for me, granted I don't listen to much 80s music but I don't see how this is all that far from other sophisti-pop/adult contemporary/more refined New Wave acts of roughly the same period.

Waterfront and orpheus are so amazing. Surprised this doesn't appeal to a wider audience tbh. It has a lot of variety and absolutely gorgeous instrumentation

Idk man, the more 80s music I listen to the more convinced I am that it's the worst decade for music since the 50s.
