Haha didn't see this:
I know, because an album by Fall Out Boy is definitely one of those 10,000 albums. Don't forget Jimmy Eat World and Coldplay. Blink-182s greatest hits is definitely 4/10 material. Don't give me shit when you listen to garbage like that.
I used to hate music just because it was mainstream, too. And yes, all those albums are better than this.

allmusic.com has gotto be the least reputable site out of the bunch. they called opeth progressive black metal on their still life review.
you have to understand that theres a difference between the mainstream and the underground.

it's the same concept, an album is an album regardless of how long it takes to make

i think what benzum meant is that after 5 years, lots of green day fanboys can't swallow the fact this is terrible.

lol how are Kerrang and Rolling Stone tools? And anwayz wat about All Music and AbsolutePunk? Just to add to the record, The Observer gave it 4/5 and USA Today 3.5/4. Also and i thought my first comment failed so i re-typed one. I just signed up to this site, couldnt resist to comment cos of my shock at these ppl's poor ratings. Green Day have explored new sounds and their songs sound more epic and 'lastable.' I love their old simple punk tunes as well, but how can u not appreciate these songs. I wouldnt call the album a masterpiece but boy it delivers quality that will be remembered for a long time.
They are tools because the point in music publications is generally to promote music. While they do give negative ratings these are generally for astonishinly bad albums or albums that will not cater to the majority of the mainstream audience. You have to bear in mind that the major aim of these publications is to sell copies and make money. Therefore the do what they feel will gain the most sales - if this means rating Green Day high then so be it. Thats my view on it anyway.
As for just joining the site, good luck with that. It might seem intimidating at first but if you stick with it it is a great resource and maybe in time you'll see why the majority of the site finds this average, or not thats the beauty of subjectivity.

That's your opinion, and it's wrong.
Think about what I just said. That's how stupid you look.

Haha, no, it's not. You're the one with this rated as a 5.
Sorry, but the bands you enjoy (from your profile) are pseudo-alternative and you clearly think you have a depth of musical knowledge. But if this is in your top 5 albums of all-time that can't be the case. Half the best-of lists on sputnik have records on them that I don't enjoy or even appreciate, and that's fine because it's a difference of opinion. You, on the other hand, don't seem to have anywhere nearly enough information to form a plausible opinion.
Analogy: I could say that Jonny Wilkinson is the best rugby player ever, and assert that it's just my opinion. But really, it's my ignorance of the sport, as I don't know anything at all about it other than having watched a couple of world cups and appreciating a few good passages of play. The same as if you think this album deserves full marks (i.e. 5/5) then you don't know very much about music.

idk why everyone's getting all bent out of shape when someone gives this a 5 or something the alexigator clearly likes the music and thats good for him.
although really dude don't back up your argument by trashing other members' taste fact is they've probably heard a lot more music than you and could probably introduce you to some really great stuff if you relaxed a little bit
tl;dr: increase the peace

so I finally gave this a full listen, and my opinion is this.
They simply do not have the technical chops to create a full on rock opera. Their ambitions are set so high above their abilities it's ridiculous.
It's catchy as fuck tho. This Message Edited On 05.16.09

You can't judge music in the same way you judge anything else, so your analogy is bullshit. Sports are based on skill, and there is no depth to that. You're either good, or you aren't. It's not a matter of opinion.
Music is completely based on personal preference, and you just can't judge it in that fashion.

Wrong.
In sport, skill is still subjective to a large degree. There is a diverse range of opinions regarding who the best player in the premiership has been this season, and there always is. That doesn't mean somebody with limited knowledge of the sport who's watched two games in their whole life has just as valid an opinion as football fanatics, since the information they have is limited.
Almost everyone thinks Ballack has had a terrible season, but he still has his admirers, largely among part-time supporters; almost everyone thinks Brokencyde are awful, but they still somehow have fans, largely among part-time listeners.
Analogy isn't perfect but that's my last attempt at explaining to you why this is not a 5/5.

| |
Piss off, theres a lot of depth to sport. if anything its harder to determine objectively which player (excluding teams) is better
