if you're bored by this cd, you're criminally insane. nice blend of cephalic carnage, origin, and necrophagist. one of the best, if not the best, metal cd I've heard all year. this album is pretty fucking fantastic peeps. some said the song structures weren't very good, but from what I hear, I detect frequently shifting structures that are still quite organizational, if not immediately memorable. not all good metal has instant hooks, this one slowly rips you apart. not only is this stuff brutal, it's also a lot of fun to listen to, and I'm surprised by the people who write this stuff off (and I can't believe someone said that he wished the guitarist was more technical, wtf!?)

haha the guitar work needs to be more technical...thats a laughable statement.

I completely agree with the reviewer. Akeldama to me, has more memorable songs; however this is still a very solid album. 'XenoChrist' and 'Sons of Belial' are some of the best songs I have heard this year.

"Sorry for the rant. i have a slipknot reflex. it's triggered when any or all parts of slipknot are metioned. i.e. having actual memebers of the band whose jobs is to headbang and hit stuff with baseball bats."
depends on what you hit with the bat lol..

@gbowles: why does every newer tech/death band get compared to Necrophagist?
Whether you dig this or not, i think it's a benchmark in the genre. PD is the blueprint for how deathcore bands can tweak their sound to continue on once the "core" suffix has worn out its welcome.

The middle part in Sons of Belial gave me a headache.

I kind of like The Faceless's first album, Akeldama, a bit more, but this album is definitely a very high-quality tech-death album.
After reading the comments on Sons of Belial, I thought it wasn't going to be very good -- actually, it's one of the best songs on the album imo.
Sons of Belial -- Good Opeth feel, shows how good the vocalist is at growling (most of the songs, he's much lower in the mix).
Xenochrist -- Best song on album. Black-metal influence, awesome. :D
Legion of The Serpent -- Love the riffs and the keyboard :p
The Ancient Covenant -- Fast riffs, awesome
Coldy Calculated Design - Diversely good
Prison born - awesome first song :P
Wish it was a bit longer and maybe have Derek (Vocalist) a bit higher in the mix. :SThis Message Edited On 12.18.08

these guys can do no wrong in my book.. love how its completely different from akeldama but its still the guitar work i love. keene manages to make the coolest sounding little solos out of just a few notes. plus these guys are flawless live which is a plus. nice review

Akeldama is better than this overall, though it's a little more melodic and less technical.

Xenochrist's last little groove/breakdown/whatever thing that goes on for the last minute or so in the song is so damn cool.

Gave this yet another chance to grow on me and it's still painfully boring. Maybe next time...
