It's hard for me to get over such pompousness in music. I realize most people here couldn't care less and that's fine. But for me the biggest turn off is bad lyrics posing as poetry. Big words to convey shallow, narrow ideas. It's like reading an Anne Rice novel.

Bob Dylan didn't have to drop stupid mythology references and hump a thesaurus to get across big, vital ideas. These guys have to do those things just to convey some convoluted story line about Genghis Khan and the feminization of god or some retarded crap like that, along with a few tidbits of wisdom that are less incisive than 99% of those silly little sayings your grandmother uses.

But hey since grammar and punctuation= good writing I guess we were all wrong about that William Faulkner guy

did you just seriously compare an amateur user-submitted music reviewing site to william faulkner?

forever-- so basically, the same reason I like a lot of pop punk lyrics; they're fun and it feels good to sing along to them.

No matter how cheesy the lyrics are, they are catchy and fun to sing along too >_>

"A thousand fathers killed, a thousand virgin daughters spread, with swords still wet, with swords still wet with the blood of their dead"

Is quite catchy.

...cause you know when i talked about well-written, it was in reference to reviewing standards in the site and not the entire compass of english literature?

i mean i listen to a lot of Viking metal and if you can dig lyrics like "Seek now, brave man

To the northland, meet our friend

And take this staff as your guide

Seek and find the northern land"

or "Lightning cracks the blackened sky,

Hear the thunder chariot ride

All brave men with hearts of war

Ride the path of mighty Thor"

then you can dig PTH lyrics

haha, this is hilarious. Everyone who disagrees with the review is pulling any possible reason out of their arses to neg, it's just ridiculous. If the review was written in a similar fashion but with a 4 above to it, this would have no negs.

Reviews is well-written enough for a pos but all you should have written was "I am a troll who has so little to do with my life that i will act as if i'm not a troll by writing reviews , making occasional comments that have some relevance, etc...in the end however i will really just go against the popular opinion of this site as often as i can without blatantly being a troll...2"

Instead you a wrote a review that says all the things you know would incite arguments...in about a week all your comments will start being ignored because people on this site are starting to see it...you suck up to the staff or guys with comments in the thousands (see interactions with mynameischan and staff) but in the end you are just a loser...gtfo...

I don't see why everyone continues to feed to this controversy. The album came out fucking 5 months ago; leave your fanboyism behind, leave your hate behind, and leave all the nonsense behind. Half of the comments here are pointless, with people just jumping in on the controversy with no real objectivity in mind.

Yeah, it can't just be that he doesn't like this album, and wishes to review it from a different perspective to all the positive ones. He obviously spent ages writing it JUST to annoy people and start huge arguments.

Jesus.....

this should not ruin his credibility as a future writer.

I never said this ruined any future chances.

the wizard did not "rip me a new one." Everyone knows exactly what I'm talking about as far as the riffs being similar. I could go into detail and look up all of the guitar terminology to describe it perfectly but that is the most boring thing anyone could do in a review. Second, the point about the palm muting is obvious. There is CONSTANT palm muting in the background the entire song almost every song! And I don't need any more detail than that. Just listen to the god damn album. Behind all the finger tapping higher pitched riffs is repetative palm muting. And his third point was non existent minus "epic fail!" Not what I call "ripping a new one."

Thank you for realizing that I was not ripping you a new one. Just next time, don't sound so damn angry and I might take you a bit more seriously.
