This album is nothing compared to Still Life. It's probably about fifth best for me.

These guys remind me of Zeppelin. Of course, in general, there is little maybe on the surface that is obviously comparable. (Although there are also evident similarities e.g. Patterns in the Ivy and No Quarter around the 3:30 mark). This is the supremest compliment I can pay a band. The only thing is I think Blackwater Park might be as good as - maybe better - than Houses of the Holy - and for even suggesting that I might just be going to hell. In any case, whenever I listen to Opeth, I end up wanting to listen to Zeppelin as well and vice versa.

Not sure, Ive heard that they were featured in Kerrang! once as Christians, but I cant confirm this. Also, the lyrics on Still Life are pretty critical of organised religion it would seem.

Hell yeah!
I am actually listening to Opeth since yesterday (shame...) and i can say that my former favorite band is dropped one place in my ratings. OPETH is teh new miracle!
The first song i heared form them was ''Blackwater Park'' itself, wich leaved me breathless and shocked... Then I listened to ''The Drapery Falls'' and i was extremely surprised again.
All Hail OPETH and this has to be their best CD, wich says a lot... These persons have to be completely genious! Aargghh... quickly listen it again...This Message Edited On 01.07.07

I don't think they are christian, but I don't think they're opposed against it in any form as well...
At least not judging from the lyrics.

I recently sampled some more Opeth and I must say I was impressed. I had heard a couple songs a while back and hated them. I must have just been unlucky enough to hear the two most boring songs. One song that I hated consisted of an overly long piano part that wasn't even that interesting to begin with. It was like 3 notes. This Message Edited On 01.23.07

Probably A Fair Judgement. I used to hate opeth because I couldn't tolerate growled vocals, but I still loved the bridge/breakdown part of Demon Of the Fall because it was so beautiful.

^^ Demon of the Fall is one of the recent songs I heard that I liked a lot.

Opeth are a rare and talented group of musicians. I sat and thought the other day 'no other band in the metal scene does it like Opeth does'...If anyone knows of a band that does please tell me i would love to get my hands on some. I love their song structure and the way they use beats and riffs. Their songs, whilst they are sometimes 12 min epics are never boring to listen to, because they structure and use riffs so well, they link each section. The Leper Affinity and Funeral Portrait are 2 of my favs

I've been told that Agalloch are pretty Opeth, but completely different. So, check out Agalloch.
I havn't heard a thing from Agalloch though.
