I think I like their Guilded Pleasures EP the best.

I feel like their second album is much better...going to give this one another shot, though, because i've really read a lot of good things about it (and friends have told me necrophagist was great, too).

I'm doing that right now, and still barely have a half-chub goin.

Also, whats the original like vs. that newer re-issue?

This is one of those records that manages to balance both technicality and emotion really well, unlike all that Brain Drill-style shit. Even the solos, as wanky as they are, do feel genuinely emotive and even melancholic. And that's the kinda sound I enjoy in technical death metal, honestly

Calling Muhammed SuiƧmez's guitarwork wanky on either Necrophagist album is generally inaccurate when you consider that they do actually have some sense of direction and melodic sensibility. I guess if the most complex you can go is The Beatles, it can seem that way but realistically speaking, they're pretty structured.

Such an entertaining album. You can't be angry when this is playing.

Album fucking rules. Muhammed is a legend. Apparently the music for this was written in 1993 and it took 6 years to get to the point where he said fuck it and recorded it and distributed it himself. Amazing.

This just doesn't get old. The best death metal always has a degree of weirdness that keeps it fresh.
