honestly, timbre and mixing and cultural place are just as important to a piece than the sequence of notes tbh

I mean yeah. It's just a strange thing to reconcile a decade of music study that champions this with my personal taste that puts Winterkalte and Oceanic at the top. I've done this shit and it's hard. It takes a lifetime of study and knowledge, but that's not what art is all about. That's craftmanship. I'm an academic and just someone who loves music, and it's like am I supposed to find a balance or just go with my heart, you know?

i feel u man. i rated beethoven's no. 9 a 2.5 but i can't justify my rating other than it was too bombastic and dramatic for my taste but i still respect the man's works and his contributions to music

my justification is that it either sounds good to these ears or doesn't.
