^Lol. This album isn't boring. If you think so it's just because you're close-minded.

That's a new one.

Hmm. I'm loving this album. But i just don't understand why they had to put the spoken word in track 2. Doesn't really seem fitting to the music. I before the voice kicks in, I have this image in my head of an epic 18th century battle fought in a treacherous storm somewhere in the middle of the atlantic. Then the voice kicks in of some guy bitching about a speeding ticket and I'm so confused.

I guess my question is why are they fitting in this particular song. Not why are they good in general.

Yeah I love the spoken word in it. It's really hard to explain why they work, at first listen I thought it was a little unnecessary, but now I would say it's one of my favorite parts, but I love every moment of this album. If BBF was just another instrumental it would have gotten slightly stale IMO so the spoken word was necessary.

That doesn't really explain why that particular spoken word part works, but I guess I don't know how to explain why I think it does. Hopefully someone else can.

bbf3 is the greatest example of how music can effect anything. It's a guy maniacally ranting and Godspeed comments on it with the music, making his plight sound equal parts glorious, sad, prophetic, and stupid. You follow along with his narrative and Godspeed makes it epic, more or less.

The ranting and the music behind it just compliment each other perfectly really.

There just doesn't seem to be any agreement between the music and the rant. The rant is naive, whiney, and pathetic while the music is epic and heartfelt. I just don't see why it was put together.

that's the thing; without the music, it's whiny naive and pathetic. with the music, Blaise Bailley turns from a rambling drunks into a heroic tubthumping, authority-defying champion of the people, striking down the demons of 'The Man' and basically making me want to have his babies.

They do a similar the same thing with the preacher in "Static". The dude is a religious nutcase, but instead of glorifying him, they write music around his speech to make you feel pity.

i think it's all about the pessimistic overanchronalisticism of his speech which the music superfluouates by underscoring his existential crises with a thunderingishly cantankerousicism of thorough cacophany and dissonance which is then combined with admittedly superficialistic beauty just imo tho
